View Full Version : I have an original DS that doesn't work, any ideas on what the problem could be?

It doesn't power on, and when I hook it to a charger nothing happens. I don't know if there is anything I can do or if the system is just completely shot.

I had a GBA SP like this and the battery was shot. Can you try removing the battery and seeing if it works while just being on the charger?

Ok, I tried taking the battery out and turning it on connected to a charger without the battery, what happens is the charging light comes on for a second or two and if i try to turn it on the speakers make a little noise like it was turning on but then nothing happens.

A ds will not boot without a working battery, either your battery is shot or one of the fuses are bad.
Edit: the charge light coming on means that the power in fuse is good the battery fuse may be bad but more likely than not it's the battery, I see failed batteries all the time.

One of the two fuses has blown, replace with new ones or just bridge the old ones (NOT RECOMMENDED).

I bought a cheap replacement battery, hopefully it works and doesn't explode lol.

I was fixing my wifes original ds and ran into a problem exactly like this after I put it together, one of the ribbon cables on the bottom half would not go back in all the way. once I got it in it worked fine but I could see it coming loose or the connection becoming funky over time and causing this problem too. possibly if it was dropped it may have been knocked loose

I got the new battery today, I put it in the system and it works. Seems the issue with it was just the battery.
