View Full Version : Wasn't someone going to release a 3rd party Genesis to Master System converter?

A while back I read online that someone was building a 3rd party pass through cart for playing Master System games on a Genesis like the Power Base Converter would (except the SMS card based games). But I've lost track of who, and when it might released. Does anyone remember it? Or its current status?

If it's specifically the card-based games you want, I think your only option is going to be the original Power Base Converter, or an actual Master System.

On a related note, there's a guy working on an FM-Enabled Power Base Converter (http://www.db-elec.com/home/lab-journal/2014-03-mar).

That's it, that exactly what I was looking for. Its not easy to google search for if you don't know the exact name.

Anyone have any testimonials of the Powerbase Mini or Stone Age Gamer in general?

You may as well go for the Power Base Converter. I was able to get one CIB for $42 recently. I'm sure you can score the real thing for a similar price to that third-party one, or less.

While it's the only one that handles card games, the official Power Base Converter has an ridiculous case design that prevents it from fitting on some Genesis models. It's meant for the original system, and doesn't fit on a Genesis 2. Doesn't fit in a LaserActive either. Not sure about X'Eye/Wondermega or other models. Apparently it DOES work on a CDX, though fits poorly.

The Power Base Mini, however, should work in any model Genesis (except maybe the Genesis 3... not sure if any PBC's work on that).

I haven't seen an official PBC go for less then $50 in a while. The only one I've seen in real life was bundled with a Model 1 Genesis for $100.

I went with the Mini.

wow I was thinking of getting one a few months back and they were ALOT cheaper.
I didn't end up getting any of them because something came up (imports/bills) so I am kinda kicking my self now.

ah well its something that some one will price low at a thrift because they wont know what the heck it is

I ordered 2 deluxe Everdrives from them (Genesis and N64 plus SD cards & readers) and there were no problems.
