Initially, it sound like they were going to do a new adventure based on the old stuff, but apparently, it will just be like Fire Red and Leaf Green, a visual update. So, not very excited anymore.

This was inevitable, but unlike the previous remakes strikes me as a little pointless- can't you transfer Pokemon from the original Ruby/Sapphire into X & Y? Not directly, obviously, but can definitely transfer from Ruby/Sapphire into the DS games and from there into the 3DS games. It'd be pretty hilarious if it lets me transfer my Emerald team into what is effectively an HD version of the same game. :-D

Having never played the old Pokemon games (X,Y were my first) I can't wait for them.

And see you get why these games even if they're recreations of an earlier version are important, and the same reason all the whining over HD wind waker was baseless too. Just because some people are old enough to have played something and had the hardware for it and the game, doesn't mean everyone was old enough and had it. Look how many PS2s versus Cubes were sold, or how many people since the GBA came out are old enough to game now or had ignored it because it was an old teeny 2D system that would play this in X/Y fashion - quite a few I bet.

Hoenners have been clamoring for this for years. Red and Green got remakes, Gold and Silver got remakes, why not Ruby and Sapphire?

I've always enjoyed the Pokemon metagames, so of course I'll be buying this. Plus, Kyushu is the best part of Japan.

Gen 3 was my hubby's favorite installment in the Pokémon series before X/Y, so it looks like we've got ourselves another preorder.

Remakes are a great (and profitable) idea ... and too many youngsters don't know the original Ruby and Sapphire, and what better than having a remake for 3ds?.

I LOVED ... and I mean LOVED HeartGold and SoulSilver almost as much as the games I played on my game boy color ... much more comfortably than my GBC with a Worm Light attached to my console, hahaha.

Remakes aren't bad, but every Pokemon is like a remake of the last when each new release is barely different from the last. The series isn't any good outside of the pvp, and when playing each new game, you have to go through the braindead easy single player which lasts around 20 hours until you actually get to the meat of the game, and when you reach that, you've got to put a great deal of time with the breeding for IVs, EV training, etc, if you want to really be able to compete.

Pokemon has some deep gameplay but it's getting into that gameplay is the problem imo and it's one thing Nintendo really needs to put the effort into fixing. I know Pokemon fans will defend this, because they always do, but why can't Nintendo just put the effort into creating a single player that I have to put some thought into completing? Why is it every single time you play a Pokemon game you could go through each and every gym with a single Pokemon that isn't even strong against the other type and slaughter every opponent including the gym leader. There's no need to create a balanced party, no need to ever use strategy, etc. It's the entire reason why I've only played three Pokemon games, one of which I quit mid game and sold it, because while I like the pvp, I have to play through an incredibly boring single player and by the time I complete the single player and create a great party with good IVs and EVs, I'm burnt out on the game and don't bother touching it again.

It'd be pretty hilarious if it lets me transfer my Emerald team into what is effectively an HD version of the same game. :-DIt's quite an elaborate process – first you have to transfer them into HeartGold/SoulSilver/Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (with either a DS Lite or an original DS), and from there you have to transfer them into Black/White/Black2/White2 (in a process which requires a second DS or 3DS), and then, if you've ponied up five bucks to access Pokemon Bank for a year, then you can transfer them into X & Y.

What might make it somewhat redundant is that apparently lots of people have all 712 Pokemon from X and Y already, such that there doesn't seem to be much need to throw in an extra game to make completing the Pokedex any easier.

It's the entire reason why I've only played three Pokemon games, one of which I quit mid game and sold it...And on this basis, you can judge them all?

When the three I've played were Pokemon Blue, Diamond, and X, and each one is barely different. Yeah. The changes are obvious but fairly minor, so it's not SF2 to SF2 Turbo, it's more like SF2 to SSF2. And how many different generations have they went through? Seven?
