I'm having this problem on two different products. I'll use my NES for example. It's had that wavy video signal problem. Decided to do a full recap to it. Opened it up to find that the mainboard capacitors are... made by Rubicon, and probably fine.

That leaved me with having to replace the power capacitors. Only problem is, how do I get to the power PCB underneath an RF shield that appears welded shut?

Found out through a tutorial that the RF shield just pops off with a little force from a flathead screwdriver.

It's also not totally necessary for the NES to function. Many times the shielding is in place to meet EMI emission standards.

The Commodore 128D is a mess without it's metal casing, for example.

I've had a few times where leaving the shielding off seemed to make the system better.
almost as if it were reflecting EMI back into it self causing video or sound distortion or causing an inconsistent ground some where with it.

I've always wondered about the top shielding on a toaster NES and how it comes in such close proximity to the VRM and the heatsink its attached to
