I'm a big fan of the genre because of the balance between mental and reflexive tasks. Games like Lode Runner, The Adventures of Lolo, The Lost Vikings, Solomon's Key, Sokoban are some that come to mind. Junction is one that didn't really get widely known but is worth noting. I assume Braid is considered to be in the genre but that's probably more modern. I'm thinking mostly of classic stuff though.

There are too many to name, but style-wise, I really like games like Buster Brothers, Snow Brothers, Tumble Pop, Don't Pull!, Kitten Kaboodle, and older action puzzlers like Space Panic, Q*Bert and to a lessor extent Nibbler.

I also really enjoy the Gal's Panic series, and pretty much any Qix clone.

I don't think of Junction as an 'action' puzzler. It's really just a standard puzzle game, more in league with falling tile, matching/grouping, and slide puzzle style puzzle games.

My personal favorites:

Adventures of Lolo series
Lemmings (not sure if it qualifies as an action puzzler, though it requires precise timing)
The Lost Vikings
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee/Abe's Exoddus

Puggsy on the Megadrive wasn't bad too, though some of the puzzles fell flat. Still, very original and was a lot of fun.

Does Another World (Out Of This World) count as there is a platform and puzzle element?,

I'd have a tough time thinking of something I like more than Mr. Driller, but Magical Drop comes close.

I've yet to play it, but another modern possibility might be Henry Hatsworth (DS). Heard really good things about it.

I suppose Portal and Portal 2 could be considered action/puzzle games. And very good ones at that.

I'm looking forward to playing both of those when I finally upgrade my PC. :D

Intelligent Qube for PS1 my favorite puzzle game aside from prof layton. IQ has great sound and epic music. Its my choice game for keeping in the cars PSone.

Labyrinth for the famicom is available in ntsc translated. That game is about as actiony and puzzly as it gets. Dont know what its really classed as. Its like zelda with a maze and the maze world changes. With a great soundtrack.

And just in case

Practical Quotient PSP
Fading Shadows. PSP
Mendel Palace. NES

Also A boy and his blob for nes has many puzzle elements. Although its the only game in my collection that drives me insane.
