But Nintendo seriously slam dunked it. Their future line-up for the Wii U is looking pretty good (though still a bit thin until 2015).
My bigger worry is 3DS didn't get much of a showing from Nintendo, which is my primary system. But things are looking really good for games on the Wii U for the near future.

I agree. Nintendo killed it at E3. The new open world Zelda sounds awesome. I love my Wii U and 3DS, but they did not show much for the 3DS, I would not worry.

The biggest surprise for me so far is the new Crackdown being developped by Dave Jones. I thought the series was buried for good, the trailer is awesome! No metroid from Nintendo is the biggest letdown, this means we might not even see one on wii U when you consider developping a game takes at least 2 or 3 years.

I don't see anything special with Nintendo's conference.
Not a single 3DS release on the schedule that I plan to buy and E3 hasn't changed that so far. And I recognize the quality, but their lineup they showed off for the Wii U for this year doesn't do anything for me and I won't be buying any of these titles except perhaps Captain Toad. And Nintendo's new IP's and their NFC toy figurines didn't excite me although I appreciate that they're trying to do new things.
And besides Zelda, Yoshi's Woolly World, and Mario Maker, what they showed off for the Wii U for 2015 didn't really excite me any. Even Star Fox U inspired more skepticism than excitement since Nintendo's Star Fox track record in the 2000's is less than impressive.

I'm just amazed at how much people complain about having to wait for good releases to come out. Like seriously how does anyone have the time or money to buy and complete every single game that comes out when they probably have plenty of unfinished backlog games for past systems or rival systems. It took me a year and a half to finally buy a Wii U due to price let alone the price of others. And I have so much backlog to catch up on I only have time to play Wii U at home on weekends. At that rate it will be a couple months before I finish New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U 100%. Then I can buy another game like Super Mario 3D World, Sonic Lost World, Mario Kart 8 or Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and that will take some time. Before I know it Smash Bros. will be out. It also doesn't give time for used games to pop up for less money when people are that eager.

I'm guessing we didn't attend the same E3 yesterday. While I am excited about Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash, the fact that Nintendo first party 3DS releases appear to be virtually non-existent beyond Super Smash 3DS (which is also delayed by the way from Summer to October) is seriously disappointing. Super Smash WiiU which is what everyone is eager to play has a vague holiday 2014 window. Nintendo certainly threw out some names, brief demos and concepts for what could be great games, but 2015 is a long way away, and delays can and will occur. On top of that, I didn't see a single third party WiiU game beyond the usual budget garbage on the show floor. In short, while there are some great games on the way, they are few and far between and there is virtually no way anyone can be just a WiiU owner if they have any interest in a broad selection of games. Frankly, I thought Sony stole the show this year with stuff like LBP3, Grim Fandango, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, and Playstation TV.

When it comes to their conferences, to me it was Nintendo > Sony > Microsoft. Nintendo was the shortest and almost everything looked great, and they had gameplay of everything as well. Sony's was good for the first hour, but there was a lot of ehh moments, and then the middle of the show 30-40 minutes was crap, then it finally picked up for the last 20-30 minutes. Microsoft showed nothing but games, but there was also very little that interested me. It felt more like their conference were aimed towards the current average gamer who gravitates towards those more popular franchises or the bro gamer and little else.
I'm disappointed in both Sony and Nintendo though for ignoring their portables. I assumed Nintendo would show off more 3DS games, but nope. They're not as bad as Sony who's completely ignoring the Vita, but the 3DS has been lacking games just like the Vita, so I'd assume Nintendo would announce a few games. I really want to see another Advance Wars and 2.5D Metroid, so will be disappointed if Nintendo doesn't announce either of those before they launch their next portable.
Last. If I had any respect left for Shahid from SCEE. The #jrpgvita guy which imo is so full of sh*t, I've lost it all after his comment this E3. The US Playstation Blog screwed up and said Type 0 HD was coming to the Vita after Square Enix announced it. Shahid saw it and assumed it was a Vita release and to take credit for it, he posted to his twitter like he had something to do with it. Well. It backfired on him and it was corrected that the game is for PS4 and Xbox One. Now Shahid looks like the lying douchebag tool that he is.

The release date isn't until November, i.e. 5 months from now. I understand your point about people having backlogs, but there are a lot of people who only have one or two consoles/handhelds and not a large backlog, so having essentially two major games (Smash and Pokemon) scheduled for release between now and the end of the year is ridiculous. Nintendo is leaving a ton of money on the table as people will fill that need with other entertainment such as tablet games, movies, television, etc...I also tend to play Nintendo games for maybe 8-10 hours total per game, so I'm not someone who is going to be satisfied with a game every few months whether that's on WiiU or 3DS. I know my kids are the same way.

I never enjoyed the SNES Punchout!!! like the arcade and NES versions. The Wii version looked like a rehash, with silly things like loaves of bread flying around when you hit your opponent and the store demos having the Nun-Chuck setup didn't drive it home for me either.
I'd be more excited for a new console version of Pilot Wings, with maybe some online competition thrown in.

Not everyone buys every single game or system, so that's how they have the time to finish things. Still others make gaming a part of their daily lives, so it's not hard to finish any number of games, even if it takes a month or two per. Then there are people like me who just generally play fast and move on.

No, but it does make your optimism for Nintendo and the 3DS seem more perplexing. I get that as classic gamers many of us tended to gravitate to Nintendo products in recent years because they focus on fun and gameplay rather than on production values or innovation. Having said that, the 3DS showing at E3 was downright embarassing, especially considering that it is Nintendo's best selling hardware of the current generation by a massive margin. There's nothing wrong with experimenting with new IP, but prioritizing new IP when you don't have the resources to develop the known excellent IP in tandem is just poor business management. Nintendo is fighting a losing battle and failing to capitalize on their success has been the story of the WiiU and to a lesser extent the 3DS in recent years. How about doing what your customers want instead of doing what Nintendo or Intelligent Systems want? Ultimately, Nintedo didn't "win" E3 this year, they just made it clear that they are out of touch with their audience and unable to deliver enough content to satisfy the marketplace across two platforms.

Nintendo had a really strong showing. Really hyped for a new Star Fox game. It's been almost 10 years since Star Fox Command, and all we've gotten since then is Star Fox 64 3D. It's rather perplexing how quiet the Star Fox series has been in recent years. The only non-Nintendo game that really caught my interest was No Man's Sky.
The new Zelda really does look amazing, but I have a feeling we won't actually see that game in stores til 2016.
Honestly, as cool as a lot of the Wii U games looked, I think it's mostly too little too late, and the Wii U needs a monster price drop. In a way, Nintendo is going to make things very difficult for themselves, long term, if the Wii U is able to kinda survive, but not challenge for either No.1 or No.2 marketshare. It's almost better if the Wii U dies an early and clean death, so that Nintendo could move on, without pissing off a ton of their fanbase. I know that sounds weird, but if the Wii U died a quick and painful death, Nintendo wouldn't get that much blame.
However, if the Wii U happens to start selling a lot better, and Smash Brothers really helps them out, and some of these other games, and the Wii U starts selling quite a bit better, but it's still ultimately a distant 3rd place, I don't think it really helps Nintendo long term. It's possible the Wii U could be just successful enough that Nintendo won't bring out a new console, but not successful enough to really make a big difference for them financially.
Of course, another strategy is to actually try to make the Wii U legitimately viable, with a chance to possibly squeak out 2nd place marketshare for this generation. $329.99 with Mario Kart 8 isn't going to work though. The price needs to be $199.99 with Mario 3D Land in the box. I think then the Wii U could actually get back in the mix and cause some problems for Microsoft and Sony. But if the Wii U stays overpriced like it is, and games keep taking way too long to come out, then I just can't see the Wii U really getting back into the mix.

I don't know that we had a clear winner this year. Last year we did, but that was mostly because of Sony blowing everyone away, Microsoft being stupid, everyone else being about a memorable as a turd sandwich and finished up with Nintendo limping to the barn. I'd say this year was a little more even in terms of good vs. meh.
Microsoft didn't so anything for me this year.
EA showed a bit more of Dragon Age and Mass Effect, both great things, but that's it.
Ubisoft is meh per usual.
Sony didn't show anything that particularly caught my eye, although if that white PS4 bundle happens to be at a reasonable price, that might be something. LBP3 looks nice.
Nintendo did a few things that interested me. At $10 a pop, I can finally get a nice Samus figure that isn't stupidly expensive. Both Zelda games looked neat, but I'm still not into getting a WiiU baring a sharp price drop. Mario Maker looks neat, but has that LBP edge of creative + ain't nobody got time for that.

I was interested in Mario Maker at first, but after the initial announcement, it's a pretty poor release and something Nintendo should have released generations ago. Mario Maker is nothing more than a SMB1 maker. The original Super Mario Bros. is good, but it's also the most generic of your good platformers. Playing through every stage in the game, or The Lost Levels, none of the stages really feel different, and after I started talking about the announcement, I started thinking Mario Maker isn't really worth paying more than a few dollars.
If it allowed items and mechanics used in games like Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World, then it'd be different because those games are massive upgrades compared to the original, but the original game? I'm pretty sure it won't be long before I get bored of pretty much any player created levels. I might as well download one of several romhacks if I'm interested in playing more of the first game.

I don't think they will do that. First of all, what big name title would they have ready for 2015? As neat as some of this other stuff was, there was little doubt that Zelda U will be positioned as 2015's counterpart to what Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Brothers were this year and so on.
And frankly, I really doubt that the Wii U will survive 2016 as Nintendo's premier home console. Unless they want to release it the same year they replace the Wii U, I think that further points to 2015 being all but assured.

It's much too soon to pass judgement on it. It's very early in development and they didn't show much off. When they switched to NSMBU graphics, I think that left a lot of promise and question marks with how far they will take this.
Plus, I imagine that there will be an excellent Nintendo produced Mario platformer there. As nice as this concept is, they're not going to ship a Mario platformer out without a full slate of Nintendo created levels unless they're going to be selling this as a $5 or $10 eShop download.
With New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U leaving me wanting more, I welcome a 3rd 2D Mario platformer with open arms.

2016 seems like a more realistic date for the new Zelda game. Skyward Sword development was announced in April of 2008 and the game didn't arrive until November of 2011. It was originally slated for 2010, but got pushed back.

If that happens, 2015 should be very interesting for the Wii U without a major AAA 1st party release. Hard to imagine something like Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Maker, Splatoon, and so on having the same impact for the Wii U as projects like Mario Kart 8 have had. Hopefully they're not showing all their cards if that ends up happening.
I'm confident it almost has to appear by Fall 2015. I think if anything misses, it will be Star Fox U. I would not at all be shocked to see that quietly be canned, morph into something else like a next gen project, or at the very least miss 2015. What Nintendo showed clearly was extremely early in the project where as they've presumably been hard at work on Zelda U for a good 30 months or so at this point with well over a year left ahead of them before the anticipated Fall 2015 release date.
Of course, it's not confirmed that they're aiming for Fall before someone jumps in and says that. But with 3D console Zelda's, that has been the norm except for Wind Waker's original release back in 2003. So many including myself are working under the assumption that's the point in 2014 that they're likely aiming for.

Star Fox is a 90% on-rails shooter. Nintendo should have no problem getting that game out on time, unless they have problems getting a good developer behind the game.
If they had shown actual gameplay within dungeons and forest levels, I'd be more convinced that the game was coming along fine. Seeing a brief scene of Link sitting on a horse in an open field and then a scene that looks like it was put together using the game engine doesn't convince me that a whole lot of the level design has been completed. It sort of reminded me of the Gamecube/Dolphin E3 showing of Gannon vs. Link, and then the Wind Waker ended up looking nothing like that.
According to IGN, there was a playable tech demo of Star Fox at the show.

The Space World demo was just a tech demo showing off the hardware, never was portrayed otherwise. Wii U saw something similar.
And Star Fox 64 was that way, we don't know that this is. Even if it is, I'm sure a quality on rails space shooter is anything but an easy and quick project. Particularly if they really want to finally do justice to this franchise after nearly 20 years of garbage.
One theory on Zelda U's showing is that they're saving it for a Nintendo Direct later this year. Just give enough today to confirm it and get people excited. They have to keep the excitement flowing and now they have a great subject to do that with since everyone is dying to learn more.

Holy *bloop* on a *bloop* sandwich! I thought I might have misread that at first, but holy crackers! This is most excellent.
Hooray for all those great classics of yore getting away from the horrible clutches of George Lucas who just let them rot. Now that Disney owns (and in the case of Grim Fandango, owned) the properties, they are open for sequels, remakes, but most important of all, being sold to someone who will actually do something good with the IP. In this case, Tim Schafer now owns Grim Fandango, and that's why this is happening. SONY fronted money for a remake, and that's why it'll be a timed exclusive for PS4 & PSVita. Afterward, I imagine we'll see it available on XBLA, Nintendo eShop, Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux, and well as PSN.

I thought Sony killed it for me this year. With the announcement of the add-on co-op campaign for Killzone, Batman, LBP3 (which got my wife intrigued), Entwined and come on, No Man's Sky. IMO, No Man's Sky tore the roof off the place, especially with it technically being an "indie" game. My jaw dropped just watching those land/sky/space transitions, I just hope the game pulls it off in action.
