I've been needing a good condition Sega 6 button controller, and I've seen the 6 button knockoffs from Hong Kong that you can get for only like 4 or 5 bucks shipped.

Here is an example:

Those cost $3.10 each (shipped), which is obviously very cheap, but are these things total crap ? Sometimes knockoff stuff can be about 98 percent as good as the real deal, and you pay so much less. Other times, the knockoffs are a total waste of money at any price, because they just totally suck. Here is a picture of what it looks like:

I have one that I got off of Ebay for cheap just for a back up. I have had it for a few months, and do use it for my Master System. So far I have not had any issues with it. It does feel light and cheap, but so far so good for me.

I have these exact same pads, only mine say "SEDA" instead of start. They're absolute garbage. The cords are about 2 feet long and the plastic covering on the cord severed both ends exposing the wires just with moving the controller around. Extremely, extremely cheap, probably worse than those Power Player Famiclone controllers.

It sucks paying the extra cost for the real deal, but I'd definitely suggest getting the official 6 button controller as third party controllers tend to break way too early. Even modern third party controllers.

Oops, looks like I accidentally posted this in the modern gaming area, instead of classic gaming.

You know, regarding 3rd party controllers for Sega Genesis, I've always liked the SG Pro Pad's.

I'm actually using one of these right now as my primary Genesis controller, and I like it because the D-Pad is quite comfortable, and the buttons have a good feel for them. I think most of the modern era 3rd party controllers definitely suck, but some of the ones made back during the actual time of the Genesis are actually quite decent.

I have a pair and there ok but the official ones by sega are the better quality.Though the official ones are hard to find for unknown reasons.

Modern 3rd party knock offs are bad. Ones released during the life of the system are generally pretty decent.
