Looking for something with a good dpad. The default Dreamcast controller dpad is a bit meh, especially compared to the awesome Genesis 6-button controller dpad and 2nd digital Saturn controller.

<EDIT> Oh yeah, actual Dreamcast controllers only, please. No adapters for using controllers from some other system.

The Ascii FT pad. You can usually find them on ebay

Total Control 3 adapter plus a saturn controller works well enough.Yeah i said adapter, but i can't think of any good third party dc controller that has a good d-pad.

Sorry, but the true fact is that you'll need to use an adapter and another system's controller if you want a good Dreamcast pad. For digital, that means Saturn; for analog, PS2.

^Have either of the above posters ever held the Ascii FT pad in their hands? It's d-pad is easily as good or better than the Saturn controller's, I have both consoles and the FT pad makes pulling off quarter and half circle motions in Capcom and SNK games a cinch

As good or better than a Saturn dpad? That's really good to know.

Here's the next challenge. Is there a standard 3rd-party controller (analog stick and shoulder buttons) that performs better than the first-party controller? I mean, better button layout and better (doesn't have to be perfect, though) dpad?

I think theres a joypad accessory where you can attach a saturn controller to your dreamcast.

iirc Interact and Mad Catz's 3rd party standard pads weren't bad, but I don't own one. The only 3rd party controller I have other than the Ascii is the "Astro Pad" which is shit

Well, the company that made the Astropad (Performance) is just Interact with a different badge (much like Ultra and Konami back in the day) so that is rather odd. Looks like the Interact-branded controllers for Dreamcast are all rather oddly shaped. I will look into the Nyko ones when I get the chance.

But it isn't true.

Pulling off quarter and half circle motions in Capcom games is easier for me with the FT pad on the DC than it is with the Saturn pad. I do have abnormally shaped hands with giant fingers, though
