Hey guys,
So, I wanted to post some pics of a rather lovely item I received from wiggyx's Rose Colored Gaming today -- I can't open it yet because RCG sent me the wrong one (I ordered the Super Famicom version and received the American SNES version... I'm trying hard to be patient because I've been waiting since March for this!) and I haven't heard back about an exchange, but I can at least show you some pictures.
This thing is absolutely gorgeous -- I shot all these images in natural light so you can appreciate the paint job. It's hard to tell but almost all of the colors are spot on -- damned near exact to the original paint scheme of the American SNES -- with the exception being the B/A buttons, which are a little lighter than the B/A on an SNES controller (and I think that's largely to do with the finish.)
In any case - enjoy, and excellent work, wiggyx! I've colored adjusted the first image slightly to give you a more accurate representation of what the buttons look like in person - absolutely gorgeous:

Whatever happened to him? He use to post here all the time.
The console looks awesome and very professional. If you don't mind saying I'd love hearing how much he charges for these.

I've been wondering where he went off to too as his new projects and posts in general were an asset and good to read.

If I had to guess, I'd say he's now just overwhelmed thanks to some mainstream gaming press getting wind of the SNES/SFC designs. Their Facebook page was at 4,000 likes in mid-June, and they were celebrating with giveaways every 1,000 likes -- then after the press, they exploded to over 8,000 likes and still growing. They're basically trying to balance production/shipping/social media/email and it's a bit overwhelming for them right now. But yes, I paid $249 for this, and it is, indeed, a very nice looking piece of kit. Yes, I realize it's about $70 more than they're asking for other designs and that I could get a backlight modded GBA on eBay for about $60 -- and I already have. But these are designs I've basically wanted my whole life -- the SNES being my all-time favorite system and the GBA having so many good portable versions of SNES classics. Anyway. :)

Where do you find a backlit modded GBA on ebay for $60? I've been watching them about a month now and the lowest was $100-120 range.

Both under $100. Big surprise.

I bought mine from the_game_boys, which is also associated with wiggy - they had some stock that was shipped to them from a parts supplier, pre-assembled. no case mods or anything - just the stock glacier case with a backlit screen.
Speaking of wiggy, I just heard back from him via my phone, so I'll have my replacement next week. More pics to come, though I'll likely save most of those for the NWR review I'm writing :)

Big surprise I guess, I never search outside of the US based ebay because of the risks involved. US or at least US+Canada they're not that cheap.
That's good wiggy got back to you about the replacement and it shouldn't take long either which is nice. I really do want to track down a US based system around the $100 or less mark preferably with the glass lens since they don't scratch so easily like the cheap one Nintendo used along with the backlight installed. I like my micro, it's great for on the go, but at home I'd like something larger since L/R heavy usage games cramp the hands.

And they're clone systems as well.

And they're clone systems as well.
Nothing to elaborate? The first one has an authentic European GBA label on the rear (with a custom Afterburner front case) and the other is an official boxed Chinese release.

Both of them look franken-legit to me. Often you find these days people will take the guts out of a bashed up GBA system and toss it in a new chinese shell which has a few different serial number stickers for the back and also removes the Nintendo jargon off the batter cover and replaces it with the old GAMEBOY emblem. Structurally they're the same by look, not sure if they're as durable or not, but you can buy the shells alone fairly cheap with the crap scratchy plastic screen Nintendo went with, though you can start to customize it out with a glass screen and the backlight mod (new one, or the afterburner way.)
Personally what I've been trying to spot out is a legit one, preferred black or the indigo, beyond that it would depend but I don't want white or anything really see through like glacier(had one when it came out, not a fan.) From that legit one I'd like to see it on there or I'd add it, a glass screen cover, and then have the 101 or the new backlight screen tossed into it. Those run $100-120+ so I keep an eye out and hope for a deal. I saw one for $90 but the screen looks like someone ground a magic eraser on it to clean it.

There are Chinese clones now for all the Nintendo "Gameboy" systems which are backlit.

I saw. I think the main issue is that they don't have the bandwidth to run an operation at the scale that demand for their products dictates; it can be tough to get their ear sometimes. Other than the mix up with packages that is already in the process of being fixed, I've had nothing but good experiences with RCG.

No, im just not a complete moron with my money(most of the time).
You can buy the shell for $2 and the console for $25 if you wanted to do it yourself. Or go on ebay to customersfirstgaming and theyll make it custom for you for less than half the cost of what you paid(less than $100) and ship it out the same or next day.
You and the other ignorant retrotards paid like $220 for a box the system came in. Make sure you save it.
Good job.
Trust me, everyone in here thinks youre retarded.
You'll be homeless in 5 years.

Got SUPER busy. Like I have no life at all anymore between the business and my 1 year-old son. It's a good sort of busy, but busy nonetheless.

This is another reason that I don't frequent forums too much anymore. It gets tiresome reading hateful, hurtful stuff. Me being who I am, I usually want to reply to such sorts of comments, but it's just not a good idea, and avoidance works best for me at this point so that I don't get all worked up :/

Well either way it's good to see you're not dead or something, and if someone tried that crap here I don't think the members here would tolerate not sorting that person out on their own for you since it's a good group here who don't come off as elitist collector snobs or just neogaf sized douchebags with no accountability for their actions.

Thanks, Tanook!
It's funny because I wasn't able to get a NeoGaf acct for years, despite trying and meeting all of their requirements. Then I finally get an account and realize that I don't really want to post there :(
Edit: Just noticed your SMB level icons. Nice! How did you get those? Or rather, who's arse did you have to kiss? ;P

I learned a very long time ago not to even bother because how it goes on there is basically the benchmark of reasons on why not to sign up to a messageboard. :D
I really need to get one of those systems like you put together, problem is with the finances I'm stuck with having the wife out of full time work the next couple of years, I'd have to do it on a budget but I really do want an old style GBA with a 101 style screen. I love the micro, great on the go, but sucks at home and painful to use the L/R buttons consistently.

People in general don't seem to understand "mass market" versus "boutique". Yeah, I can buy a terrible clone console off ebay for peanuts. That's not the same thing at all as a handcrafted custom piece. And they want to attack the artist and the people who appreciate the art. I think it has to do with entitlement complex that people under a certain age seem to have been born with. They deserve everything they want at the exact price they wish to pay If they don't get exactly what they want, well how dare anyone produce what they do at the rates they require and how dare anyone else create a demand for it.

Tanooki, I hear you. My wife has actually not been working since we moved to NYC over a year ago -- I'm making very good money now and we saved a LOT before we moved, so we're fine, and will be even better when she's done with school. We don't have kids yet or a mortgage, so... well, whatever it is keeping you being sole provider, you should be proud of yourself.
And yeah; the SP is just not the great ideal that most people make it out to be.
Wiggy, have fun at CCAG this weekend! Wish I could be there.

Hey y'all, here's my writeup on RCG's SNES-themed GBA, complete with TONS of pictures.

And here's a picture that I'm including here and the NeoGAF GBA/GBC/GB appreciation thread only. I was able to get a couple different lenses for pictures, and this one arrived after my feature'd already gone up.
