What actually plays as Mario in Super Mario Bros 2 (USA)?

I decided to play through Super Mario Bros 2 (/USA) because I had some spare credit on my Wii. I have been a fervent fan of Toadstool for her glide-jump since I was little. The next character I would choose is Luigi. I'm not sure if I'd choose Mario or Toad next, since their physics are comparably heavy.

Does anyone actually play as Mario in Super Mario 2 (USA)?

I might have played as Mario, once or twice. Toad is my favorite because he is the fastest.

Always picked Princess Toadstool for her floating ability. Doubt I have more than a half hour combined with the other three characters.

Ever since Mario 2 came out up to today I've only played as Mario. I could never play as any other character because it's a Mario game!

I used the Princess most of the time. For one or two specific levels, I used Luigi for his super floaty jump. I used Mario here and there as he was, basically, the "average" choice. Toad, although the fastest at picking up coins out of the roots, had horrible jumping ability so I hardly ever picked him..

I play it with the princess or mario. Do not like the luigi jump physics and toad seemed to fail at being good at anything other than not slowing down carrying stuff, but with no time limit that seemed pointless to me.

I just played through Super Mario Advance and used Mario most of the time, and occasionally the Princess. I only used Toad a few times; I never used Luigi at all.

There are certain levels like 4-2 (the whales), 5-1 (the giant waterfall), and 6-2 (the Albatoss ride) where the Princess's long jump is indispensable, but in other cases it just makes much of the game a little too easy, except when her pick-up speed gets annoying. Luigi's floaty jump is just a little bit too unpredictable to meet the same purpose. Toad is great for the sand levels, but otherwise his low jump is too much of a hindrance. That leaves Mario.

I usually use Mario but I play the whole game as the other characters from time to time too. To me it is easy enough that I can beat it with ease no matter who I use.

Princess Peach,mostly for her jump and yes i know it can make the game very easy.Ive never had a use for mario he just to average for how he plays in the game.

I use Toad except for a few levels that I'll use the princess or Luigi. Rarely ever use Mario.

Back in it's day, I always played as Luigi because he had the highest jump and I could take shortcuts with it. But today, I generally play as Mario because Luigi and the Princess are too slow at grabbing and carrying, and Toad's jump sucks.

Huh, I guess I'm a bit of an odd duck out for liking and using everybody? I like using Mario for the first world and any later stages that feel "normal", where his all-around ability is useful. Luigi I like using on most desert stages. His high, long jump is useful for largely avoiding quicksand. If there's a lot of digging or a slippery surface, I like Toad for his fast, tight control. Princess Toadstool is good for when there are a lot of bottomless pits and/or tiny platforms to jump to where her floating allows for extra precision.

Toad is the best when it comes to those sand digging sections. He just flies through them. But other than that, I'm with you. I used to play through 90% of the game using Peach's float ability. It just makes the platforming so much easier.
