I always wondered if people had to choose a company to be devoted, who would the majority pick? Please explain your choice. If it was other, name the company and why.(sorry i had to list just the big ones, it would have been to much)

Well i always loved sega's systems and games. i own atleast one veriosn of all they're hardware except SMS which i plan to get in the near future. when i thought of sega and its gaming library, i thought it was nintendo more mature adversary. it always seem to have edgier characters with a little more character in them. it was just my perception of Sega.

Nintendo.

Currently building a collection of Nintendo first-party games (as if you couldn't tell from my post in the Buying & Selling forum). Seeing that I didn't really like Metroid Prime or the N64 and Gamecube Zelda games, I can't call myself a fanboy. But if I had to pick...Nintendo has made SO MANY OTHER GREAT GAMES....

Personal favorites include:
Super Metroid
Wario Ware Inc.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Punch-Out
Zelda DX
Oil Panic (Game & Watch)
Mario's Super Picross
Super Mario World
F-Zero X (and soon to be GX once I buy it)
Legend of Zelda
The NES Zapper games (especially Wild Gunman)
Kirby Super Star
Dr. Mario

And many, many more.

Though I dislike fanboy/girl-ism, I would be a Commodore fanboy. Since that's not on your poll, I picked the next best thing: Atari.

I'm *already* a fan of Nintendo, so if I went all the way towards fanboyhood it's easy to see I'd still be in the big Ns corner.

But I do hate fanboyhood with a passion. It's ridiculous not so much from being a fan of a company, but for the *hatred* they have towards anybody else. Ridiculous.

Admittedly, I already am a fanboy for Atari. I can't deny it, but this dogmatic allegiance is based primarily on things like fun childhood memories and nostalgia. A disc-jockey firend once told me that the music people are exposed to in their early teens is the music they will continue to listen to for the rest of their lives. I think the same principle applies to games. Got my first 2600 when I was 12 and over 20 years later it's still my fave, no matter how many polygons the new systems throw at me :D

For purposes of this poll, however, I voted for Sega. Because if I had to switch my fanboy allegiance then Sega is where I think I'd go. Over the last few weeks I've been dealing with the epiphany that, while I haven't yet discovered any games I really love for these systems, Sega was one hell of a great hardware manufacturer. They put a lot of thought and love into their hardware system designs.

For starters, recycling the Master System into the Game Gear was a stroke of genius. Very little retooling for the basic board was involved and suddenly - bam - Sega was in the handheld market with a perfectly viable system as opposed to trying to engineer one from scratch.

Making more or less everything the same voltage was prudent as well. Did you know your GG battery pack will power your Genny 2 or 3? Sure bet. Now you can take it camping.

I would say Sega's real hardware glory shines through in the Genesis. Think about how many consoles you've seen that have expansion slots that never saw the light of day (hello, Atari 5200, NES et al). Sega not only added expansion ports to the Genesis, they utilized them as well. With the right expansion devices you can upgrade your Genny (32x), downgrade it (Power Base converter) or move laterally to a different type of media(Sega CD). Say what you will about the quality of the CD and 32x games, but at least Sega made sincere attempts at expandability.

I do not yet own a Saturn or a Dreamcast. I'll get them eventually and probably discover even more amazing things to stimulate my hardware fetish. But the more I look at Sega's hardware desgns, the more I see some real vision with respect to frugality, resourcefulness and long-term thinking. Sega seemed to have taken every hardware mistake Atari made and learned from them. Damn shame Sega got out of the hardware business when they did.

Rereading this screed, I have to close by saying: Dag, I guess I am a Sega fanboy after all. :D

Fanboys piss me off, hmm-kay... but if I were one it would probably be for SNK. The Pocket Color is quickly becoming more and more my fav console, so I'd be supporting it with every dollar I've got.

SEGA, a company who's made MANY fantastic, memorable games throughout their history, and very few bad ones.

Let's go make some CRAZY money! :-D

Konami owns me. They've had me since Contra.

SNK owns another smaller chunk of me (Shhhh! Dont tell Konami! ). They're had me since NES Baseball Stars. *has a self imposed mental block over "Athena" however*

If I HAD to pick one, it would be Nintendo, although parts of me always will hold true to the 2600 and SMS.. So many games to choose from, so little time~!

I'm sure everyone'll be stunned to learn that I'd go with the Magnavox/Odyssey series of machines here.

C'mon. Fan yourself. Breathe. It wasn't that surprising.

It's just the first game system I grew up with, and in many respects still my favorite. I have a thing for the underdog, I guess.

Atari for me man. All the way.

My initial interest in Atari was in their 8-bit computers. I was a Computer Engineering student in college when the Atari 400 came out and when I learned the details on the design of the machine it blew me away. It was far more interesting then the architecture of the mainframes I was studying at school. I worshiped Jay Minor even before I knew his name. The idea of hooking a second, smaller computer (the Antic) to the primary CPU was cool! Well beyond the stuff I had to study in school which was restricted to a computer with a single CPU and very primitive I/O devices. I was excited about all of cool things you could do with the 8-bit computers and sure enough, the game programmers did not disappoint me. Once I got my own Atari 400 I learned how to use the game ports not only for input but for output as well! I bought a Big Trak tank at about the same time and I was able to program my Atari to control the movement of the tank. It was cool and the fact I could do it so quickly on my Atari sold me for life.

I didn't get into the 2600 until long after I got into the Atari computers mainly because I wasn't impressed with the graphics compared to the computers. Then I learned about all of the programming tricks that were used on the 2600 to get those graphics. Far more ingenious then the tricks on the Atari computers. I was sold when I got my first Activision cart (Sky Jinks) and noticed that the graphics on that game was equal or even better then what was found on the 8-bit computers.

My interested continued even after the Tramiels bought Atari. I liked the 1040 ST computer a lot (still do): it had a lot better graphics at a far cheaper price then PC's in that day. I even used a 1040 ST as a terminal for our VAX systems at work (and was able to one up some of my co-workers who were stuck with VT100 terminals). I was torn when I learned that Jay Minor designed the Amiga and not the ST computers but by then I was already sold on Atari. Another factor is that the internal workings of the ST hardware were published before the other machines and I went ga-ga over the specs the same way I did with the 8-bit machines. The design wasn't as elegant as the 8-bits (they lacked the Jay Minor finesse) but the fact that I could read about and see the architecture of the machine put me into nerd spasms for days.

I'm sure the other machines out there today have far more interesting architecture then the Atari machines but they are either not being published or they're not easily accessable. Heck, I knew about the architecture of the Jaguar before any of the Nintendo machines (in fact, I still know very little about Ninetendo architecture).

So there you have it. I'm an Atari nerd to the core and I've had many Atari fanboy moments. (Yes I did indeed go into nerd spasms when Joe DeCuir gave presentations on 2600 architecture at previous CGEs).

I'm crazy about the Gamecube regardless of the amount of accessorizing it does so I instictively clicked on "Nintendo" up in the poll. I mean I've got the AC cards, the GBA link up and I want the reader and the GB player, so I'm obviously a Nintendo whore.

However, now that I think about it, I like my Dreamcasts way more and I also own a Genesis and a Saturn (which makes them the majority brand in my house) so I guess that makes me more of a Sega fan, but all of their systems are "dead" so I'll stand by my vote.

Sega for me.

Despite their many mistakes over the years (32X etc) I still look forward to anything they put out. The Dreamcast is one of my favourite systems and I'm gutted that it was never a commercial success. I grew up with a Master System and then a Mega Drive and I've own quite a few of both. I'd like to see a day when they're back in the Hardware market and being a big success again.

I've slowly come round to Nintendo though. I've never been too keen on Gameboys, NES and SNES but I love the N64 and the Gamecube (which looks like it could be another DC :().

Sega for now.. maybe Nintendo in the future. ;)

I'm not really a fanboi-type myself, but there is one company - and they are the only game company - that has my unswerving loyalty. They are the only game company from whom I will, without reading any reviews, go to the store and pre-order and pick up their game - paying full price - on release day.

That company is Ion Storm (Austin). Note that the Ion Storm (Dallas) which was John Romero's playground is dead, and now only Warren Spector and his crew remain. IMO they make the best stuff out there, and all their stuff is exceptional.

Nintendo is good, but they have some rotten eggs now and again. I love their good stuff, but those still doesn't make up for a stinker like Majora's Mask...not enough to push me into fanboyness.
