Not being satisfied with the 14 consoles that I already have, I'm looking to pick up something "new" (not anything modern like an Xbox, etc). Admittely, I don't know a whole heck of a lot about the ones I'm considering so I'm wondering everyone's opinions on strengths and weaknesses or best games, etc. On my "consider" list:

1. Colecovision. I didn't know of anyone who had one of these growing up but I picked up about 15 games the other week so I'm thinking of getting one.

2. Atari XE GS. I dunno why, but I kinda want one... I'm sure the more thrift store hunting I do, the more XL/XE carts I'll find so I was considering picking one up.

3. TG-16. I have never played one ever.

4. 3DO - games are easy to come by, and are cheap. Now that it's $49.99 instead of $599, it's more tempting.

5. CD32 - I know, good luck finding one of these in NTSC format, but I'm such an old Amiga user, I'd love a console version.

6. Odessey2 - Only because it's a curiousity.

Which one should I start with?

I would go for the TG16 or a Duo. There are some great "next generation" games that were only available on the system. Military Madness, Legendary Axe, Galaga 90, Bonk Trilogy, Splatterhouse etc.

IMO Colecovision then TG16. Both of them have some not-to-be-missed classics. Having just picked up the O2 yesterday I can say with confidence that the Colecovision and the TG16 come first. I can't comment on XE or CD32. 3DO is alright.

I honestly have never heard to much good stuff about the 3D0. Im not saying its bad becasue I don't know anything about it but I rarely if ever hear positive remarks. What are the standout games?

My heart says Odyssey 2, but if you already have a pile of Colecovision games, my brain says go for the Coleco goodness. 'Tis a wondrous thing.

its a tough call between the atari and the coleco... go with whichever one you have the most carts for probably.
you cant loose with those two.. although if you have a 5200 then you pretty much have some of the same games for the XE.

coleco.

Coleco.

Turboduo or TG-16 if you REALLY want to, but overall the Coleco blows the TG out of the water... (For their respective time periods)

How much better is the Coleco over the 2600? I never had a Coleco but I vaguely remember my friend having one.

Just get them all. Thats the best way IMO! Keep looking around at swaps and thrifts and buy what you find. Also ask friends/coworkers...you never know whats in their closets and sometimes you will be surprised. Don't bother with ebay.

But if I had to choose one I'd say TG16!!!

Also recall you can play all the Atari games on your ColecoVision with the Atari 2600 adapter. Bonus!!!!

Colecovision, unless you wanna get into imports, then TG16 (PC Engine)

Coleco, easily

but in 3DO defense, it does have a great version of Star Control.

Ignore them all and get a Vectrex. THAT is a system, my friend.

The overwhelming majority says I should grab a Colecovision next... sounds good to me :) (and I already have an SMS with 30+ games Racoon Lad :D)

What are good games to pick up for it?
