Please forgive my weak search-fu if this has been covered before. Is the PS3 serial number stored anywhere on the hard drive? Or is it just on the case sticker and the box? I just bought a 320 from my local pawn shop, noticing there was some sticky residue on the back, but not realizing that it was due to the missing serial number sticker. (duh!) Now I'm having minor qualms about it being stolen. Also figuring I won't ever be able to trade it in at GS without the sticker? Thoughts?

Walter C.: Hi, my name is Walter C.. How may I help you?
Dreadstar: Hi Walter. I have a question about PS3 serial numbers.
Walter C.: Sure, tell me Duane.
Dreadstar: I bought a used console. I didn't notice at the time, but the serial number sticker is missing. No box, no original receipt. I am just wondering if the serial number is actually on the hard drive somewhere, or if it's possible for you to look it up based on the mac address? I don't want this console to be banned or anything.
Walter C.: I see, Duane. I'd be happy to look into this for you today, allow me one minute please.
Walter C.: To locate the model and serial number of the PlayStation 3 system, look on the back of the system and locate the bar code sticker. Underneath the bar code you will see the 11-digit serial number followed by the model number which begins with "CECH".
Walter C.: al numbers may sometimes be printed on the store receipt.
Walter C.: You may also locate the model number by looking on the retail box. It can be found by looking on the top of the box (the side where the handle is located) and is printed below the contents of the box.
Walter C.: Those are the only 3 ways to find the serial number on a PS3.
Dreadstar: If I give you the MAC address can you tell me if the hardware is banned from PSN?
Walter C.: Unfortunately we cannot find a system with the MAC Address, and you PS3 cannot be banned never, because what we banned is your PSN Account Online, there's no way that your PS3 can be banned.
