I really should do something with that PS2 I bought a while back.

As I understand it, there are basically two ways to softmod a PS2 – stab it with a slide card to do the swap trick and jump through assorted hoops, or find someone who has already done a softmod who can just write the relevant file to a PS2 memory card.

Before I risk busting up my PS2, I thought I'd ask: can I send a memory card to someone here who can subsequently write McBoot to it for me?

Wait there's a way to softmod through a memory card? Didn't know that.

Research Free McBoot and Open PS2 Loader. If you have a PS2 Fatty you can install games to hard drives (preferably through a PC using a program called Winhiip) and use Open PS2 Loader to play. Well worth the hassle of installation. Getting it onto the card is a pain (which is dependent on method) but once installed then you can make additional copies for yourself and others from the card.

feel free to send it my way. I have a hard-modded ps2 and can install the exploit for you.

I have a freemcboot slim PS2, and use OPL to run games off my PC's HDD via Ethernet. Works very, very good.

My fat PS2 is hard modded, but it came with a Free MCBoot memory card as an extra so I think in effect my PS2 slim would be considered softmodded by the memory card and work with it?

I was able to install the files needed to the memory card using action replay max, used a usb thumb drive and some info on the interwebs and got it installed so basicly if I wasn't playing off of a disc I could bood from the drive when I had a specific game installed (in my case a demo disc) or with another disc it would go into a burned/import disc mode
