Hey everyone, I'm working on a new Let's Play series of the Original Civilization. I play mostly old 90's PC games and I usually get a couple new videos posted everyday.

I wish I could still play that. Was one of my earliest games I bought, but the old 16bit windows installer/exe detests Win7 64bit. :( I know 3 and 4 will play but they blow. I did have 5 but I removed Steam about 2 years ago so all I've got left is the PS3 Civ Rev.

I still play Civilization 1 and Colonization on one my laptops setup with Windows 98 SE. Civilzation 5 is just a masterpiece. For me personally, I never thought my gaming experience and nostalgia for CIV 1 could be topped but CIV 5 is easily an equal for me. Bravo Sid!!!

I'm on Windows 8 and using Dosbox. I've played several oldies recently and have yet to have an issue.

Speaking of getting old games to play... Anyone have any luck with Civ 2 on windows 8? I can't seem to get past the intro screen without it crashing on me.

Here's the solution:

1) Download a Virtual Machine (for games that don't require any sort of hardware acceleration, Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 is the easiest to use)

2) Go through the steps to create a virtual hard drive and install the OS of your choice. Keep in mind that older versions of Windows have coniptions about hard drive sizes--Windows 98 SE is supposed to be unlimited but you should stick to 30gb just to be safe. Windows 95 requires the HD to be 2gigs or LESS, and I would assume the same is true of Windows 3.1 (which requires DOS so I recommend installing either 95 or 98 instead).

3) Install the game in the virtual machine. It should play just fine here.

Seriously, Virtual Machines are a GODSEND for those older Windows games.

If you're asking "how do I get Windows 98?" .... ummm... well.... I have an answer but its not one I'm allowed to say in public.

I know you're speaking of the five letter w word that ends in z but I just don't want to go there. I had considered the VM setup before, but the barrier there just has never been worth it to me.

20 episodes and a crazy ending later, the series is now complete :)
