I hooked up my PS3 slim (non-super slim) using a set of official Sony PS1 / PS2 (green box SCPH 10060 U) S-Video cables. Being curious, I viewed some calibration images online to see how well they fared.

Viewing the image above and even zooming in, I could see no distinction between the black boxes in the center of the screen. It was as if a lot of the brightness / contrast information from the signal was stripped. No amount of fiddling with contrast, brightness, or sharpness settings helped.

I have seen Sony's official s-video PS3 cables but I always thought it was just part of a re-branding when the PS3 came out and there were no differences between the any of the multi-av-out cables since the PS1 days.

Are my cables broken or could these cables not be fully compatible with the PS3?
