What's that one game (or games, if you'd like to share more) you own where you can play it any time, know everything about it and would never get rid of it regardless of if its cheap or expensive. The more underrated/obscure/less mentioned the game is, the better.
For me, it may not be underrated or anything but it would have to be Streets of Rage 2. In my opinion, everything in that game comes together nicely and in my head, it's a perfect game. I know a lot of people would greatly disagree, but the graphics, sound fx, music, levels and characters all compliment each other to create a certain mood to get you into the game. It's pretty much the game I've been playing my whole life.
Some honourable mentions:
-Comix Zone
-Double Dragon 2
-TMNT 2 The Arcade Game
-Kung Fu
-Forgotten Worlds
-Blaster Master

For me it would be a lot, but I will name only a few.
Goldenaxe 1 and 2 on Genesis
TMNT II arcarde on NES or Arcade
Galaga on anything
Need for Speed 3DO
Goldeneye N64
Metal Gear Solid PSX and like I said this list could go on forever.

It will always be Sega Rally for the Sega Saturn.

You listed six but asked for one! :D
Seriously though, if it were just one and staying away from the usual first party gimmes -- Super Dodgeball.

Agreed, I'd be ok with either one of the Golden Axes for the Genny.

Ultima exodus, the perfect rpg experience, I could keep that game forever and still enjoy it.

Sub Terrainia for the Genesis. I never beat it. But I get farther the more time I get to mess with it. Its a great game with a phenomenal soundtrack for its time.
The plot is unique, you're piloting a ship underground and once you collect the sub mods you can go underwater. It has a slow gravity and fuel levels which add to the difficulty. The enemies are vastly different giving the atmosphere a better feeling of exploration. Its hard to feel like you've done the same thing over and over again.
Whenever people ask about a boss in a game, I instantly think of the first boss flying around with 3 heads and whipping your ship into the cave walls.
I have loved this game as a kid and appreciate it more as an adult. It is really a great game. I would never sell my copy, even though it was about 4 bucks at play n trade.
Other games worth praise that don't fit this category.
Morrowind for PC and XBox. Easily my favorite game of all time. No if, ands or buts about it.
Psychonauts for XBox, PS2 and PC. A fantastic platformer I searched for years to get, and suprizingly it can withstand the tests of time.
Darkwing Duck NES and TG16. Need I say more.
And lastly Guerrilla War for the NES. Over 15 years of searching and trying to remember the name have brought back so many memories and no disappointments.

The one obscure game I could play over and over is Air Fortress for the NES. I love the structure and the music in the game. Very underrated title IMO.
A more mainstream choice is Symphony of the night. I can always pick it up and play it.

Brigandine The Legend of Forsena or Brigandine Grand Edition.
These are take over the continent style TRPGs with six different playable countries. Unlimited replay value with amazing gameplay. Imo they're perfect games that have no flaws outside of maybe their graphics.

Awesome choice. It's one of the first games that came to my mind when I saw this thread, and certainly the first NES game.
There aren't too many games I feel driven to replay after I've beaten them, but AD&D: Cloudy Mountain for Intellivision is one of those few. Awesome game, and I guess that's what I'll pick...
...but then there are so many other tempting options: Dungeons of Daggorath for Tandy CoCo, the Japanese-exclusive Tengen port of Marble Madness for Mega Drive (which was very obscure until recently), even Captain Comic for NES...sigh.
Oh, wait, I've got it! Family Tennis for Famicom. No one talks about this game, yet it's easily the best 8-bit tennis title I've played, and even has a cast of real-life players (under pseudonyms). The only problem is that I don't actually own it, though I have worked on a translation patch for it.

Not quite sure how 'obscure' it rates as, but Joust for the Atari 7800. Very close to the arcade original in graphics and sound, and works fine using 1-button joysticks. It spends far more time in my 7800's cartridge slot than any other game.

Probably a cliche, but Super Mario Bros. That game is a timeless work of art.
There is a game called "Base Wars" on the NES- its essentially robots playing baseball; it is kick ass, but it sucks. My buddy and I ALWAYS play it when we hang out...I'm not sure why

Air Fortress is great, Idk why people don't like it. The games I know in and out are mostly the popular games, Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Kirby's Adventure, Sonic The Hedgehog 1... I could play Sonic CD forever, too, it's prolly the best 16-bit Sonic game.
Some lesser known games would be Smash TV on NES, which has the coolest control scheme I've ever experienced on NES, using 2 D-pads in either had. Usually u just hope the controls aren't too stiff and stick to what's intuitive, A being jump, B attack/jump. But Smash TV just has amazing controls. The only issue is it wears on ur hands cuz the gameplay is real fast-paced like a schmup.
I could play Skate 3 forever too, I just love skateboarding games, I've been playing them since the original Tony Hawk, and I know every inch of Skate 3. Just one of those open-world games I've gotten sucked into and will just put it in to putz around

I just recently picked this up but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Can't wait to dive in!
And lastly Guerrilla War for the NES. Over 15 years of searching and trying to remember the name have brought back so many memories and no disappointments.
Also searched this up, looks really fun. There are lots of games similar but this looks more fast paced and polished than others. If I come across it I'll definitely pick it up.

I agree 100%. I always play it with one of my friends, it's a pretty fun game but you can get homeruns so easily. It is something different though, and I guess thats why I like it.

Definitely Valkyrie Profile on the PS1. I don't even like RPGs, but I've played through this game multiple times over the years and enjoyed it immensely. The graphic design, mythology, unique gameplay, multiple endings and secret areas/characters to find and especially the awesome soundtrack give this game a unique feel that I've never experienced before. I haven't collected in years and the few systems that I have left are boxed up, but I'll never get rid of this game. Its been a few years since I last touched it, but I know that I could hook up that PS2 and sink right back in like I just played it yesterday :)
Honorable mentions:
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Super Smash Bros Melee (I bring it to my buddies' house every few months for our multiplayer ritual)

Another would be rad racer, for some reason I just really like the game

Ok I tried Sub Terrania again, the graphics and music are awesome, the game looks awesome, but the gameplay just frustrates me to hell. U press B to move the ship around, and I can't make it past the first screen, I keep crashing into things, cuz u move too fast, I can't configure the ship to point at things to shoot them, it's ridiculous. Why couldn't they just make it so u use the D-pad to move around? I think if I play with it some more I might get the hang of it, but I got game over like 4 times on the first screen, got frustrated and threw in Streets of Rage 2 to cleanse my pallet, which is a classic and one of my fav Genesis games. I gotta be doing something wrong, there's no way this game is that difficult. I'll give it another chance, consult the manual, etc.

I could probably play through the first 3 Metal Gear Solid games with ease, I know those games so well, the first one on Playstation being the one I've played the most of, although I played the crap out of Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater and beat them, as well.
Another one I could play through like nothing is Tony Hawk Pro Skater. I've beaten that game a million times, and every time I remember exactly where everything is from when I was 12 and got the game new for Christmas.

Quarth (Famicom/NES)! There is something thrilling about playing a game that mixes the puzzle genre with a "shmup". The co-op mode is an added bonus. :)
