Maybe that's why they're hard to get? The usual Christmas scammer trash that find stuff whatever it may be that's hotly desired during this time of year who buy up as much as a store allows so they can resell at a profit online to the harm of honest consumers who got the shaft by those actions.

I know with Smash they're in demand, but Nintendo wouldn't have been so stupid to make such a small run of the devices knowing the rabid base want a wired pad so they're no lag assumed when in combat with others.

I do hate scalpers. Goes into a few stores buys all the stock and fucks people out of possible gifts during the holidays. Nintendo should have seen this coming though.

I can't stand the GameCube controller so I have no interest in this but are they pretty common now?

Probably. I wandered into a gamestop yesterday to ask some questions and saw a few of them up on a high shelf. If people were looking to poach I imagine they'd be goners already.
