One of my friends and I have been talking about something he saw in EGM many years ago. It was a Game Genie style device (plug cart into device and device into system) that reduced slowdown in games like Gradius III. He says it was in the Quarterman section but neither of us can seem to locate the mag. Anyone that might have some of the older EGMs laying around and happens to find what we are looking for it would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for a product name and possible a company. I believe it was only avaiable in Japan from some 3rd party developer.

Hmm, not sure exactly what the device is, but it sounds suspiciously like the SA-1 chip used in later games like Yoshi's Island and Super Mario RPG. It basically is another SNES CPU built into the cartridge itself to add to the power capability of the SNES.

I always thought Yoshis Island uses a Super FX 2 chip....

It uses both.
