View Full Version : How much should I pay for a TurboDuo ?
If there was one present I'd love to see under the tree, it would be a TurboDuo. It's really the only retro system I don't own that I truly, truly desire (that and a Neo-Geo).
However, man... The price of a TurboDuo is through the stratosphere. At least on Ebay. Are they cheaper locally ?
If you were looking to buy a TurboDuo right now, how much would you actually pay for the thing ? What would be considered a steal, that is within range of actual possibility, if somebody waited long enough and was willing to be super patient in finding one ?
I know the chances of me getting a TurboDuo are extremely low, but a guy can still dream... right ?

Yeesh, those prices are crazy. Remind me again why you wouldn't want to just play the games in emulation? I know, I know "original hardware is better" and all that, but ... look at it. Is it really?

Pay no more than around $200 for an original Turbo Duo, since the caps will need to be replaced, and are probably leaking on the board. About $230 for a re-capped Turbo Duo.
The best option is a PC Engine Duo-R with region switch, much better quality, doesn't need to be recapped, and the power and AV go out the back, unlike the regular Duo. A modded Duo-R is around $300.
Those are all "community prices," though, so you'll need to be a participating member of certain communities to get those prices. Pcenginefx.com and neo-geo.com are the places to join.

Members there can perform the mod and sometimes sell the console and mod service together.

It's funny you bring this up, I just started looking into them myself and was blown away by their prices. If I have a place that has a good deal I'll let you know.

200 to 250 usd is a good price range for the Duo. It's a lot of cash but with the current prices of the actual and past generation, it doesn't feel that high to pay the same amount that you would pay for a ps3 or xbox 360 ...

I haven't found any local so I've been looking online like you. What's sad is I bought a Japanese Neo Geo AES with four games, then modified it with a universal bios and component output for less than the TurboDuo's are going for. Oh, that was purchased less than a year ago and surprisingly enough was purchased on eBay.
