Omega is probably still my favorite, Super Mario Land 3 is a great Vanilla hack.

I hear the "VIP" series is good, too.
We actually had a thread (http://forum.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?132623-Super-Mario-World-Hacks-Where-to-start) about this a while ago, but it didn't really get anywhere. I'm not sure how well DDCecil's hack (http://forum.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?50825-DDCecil-s-Projects-SMW-and-Final-Fantasy-1-hacks-plus-my-new-project!) has withstood the passage of time.
Super Mario Land 3 is a great Vanilla hack.Is that the one that turns it into Wario Land?

I've been on romhacking.net before but I never thought to check it. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Only caveat is that they only have system rom hacks. Tons of SMW hacks were done as PC applications.

Wouldn't surprise me, I stopped trying hacks awhile ago. Back then it was still mostly PC.
