I found this: http://aldude999.deviantart.com/art/SimCity-2000-Installer-For-Windows-7-and-Windows-8-340845297

I own the SC2K CD Collection and kept it all these years, but I could not use it with Win7 or now Win8 64bit because of the 16bit installer being blocked.

This thing works. It's beta so a little crude, but if you use the installer it will make a modern 64bit simcity.exe file on your computer and the game just works like it did 20 years ago.

I have the CD Collection which isn't the SE GoG(and archive.org) has so I had to tweak it a bit grabbing a DLL and moving the subdirectories off my CD into the install directory where the new EXE was created but it does work 100%. Saving and loading files, all functions other than the dropped out of date .HLP support files.

Clearly this works in Windows 64bit, will you GoG people be adding this if you can get the authors permission as the Win release is vastly superior to the lower res DOS version. I'd love to see this added since I bought the DOS release in a pinch awhile back.

As I said archive.org has this, part of their project that got permission to distro old PC games. I just happen to have a disc of it still after all these years. I'm so happy to see this work, just wish someone would do Sim City Classic Windows, but I think that'll be a hard sell with Micropolis, even if it has to run from a sucky .jar file for Windows.

Does it run at correct speed? Last time I tried getting it going on my old gaming PC from 2003 with XP, it installed just fine but ran far too fast. A year was over in less than a second, and it took about two decades just to time it just right to hit the pause button.

After Command & Conquer, I'm in the mood for another classic. This or SimCity 3000 sounds just about right.

What IS different between SC2000 Windows and SC2000 DOS anyway? Is it really just graphics?

The fastest speed on my PC ends within a second, but all the others run at the proper rate of time. That's the one bad concession other than the HLP files being useless.

SC2K WIN vs DOS -- resolution, slightly nicer graphics, windows audio which has that nice midi music for the jingles, just a little more fluid/easier to navigate in windows versus faux windows like menuing in DOS. I suppose it's a bit of preference, but it's also cool being able to play the game without having to fart around with DOS Box.

Oh and Leo, I got C&C and Red Alert working. I actually found the CD that I thought I had thrown out and found this oddball all in one catch all super patch for that specific CD and it worked. It still won't work with Tiberium Sun which sucks, the start menu won't take a mouse click to get into the game, but the others work and maybe the ones post-Tiberium do too but I haven't bothered.
