View Full Version : Name a 3DS game you would love to own if it wasn't for region locking

Ever since the DSi jumped onto the scene for it's very brief life it caused Nintendo to pull a 180 and be complete tools about locking down games to systems all in the name of security due to the now online capabilities on the hardware with an attached storage medium (SD card.)

I used to import stuff now and again with the DS, GBA, GBC and earlier because it was an open book and we did get hosed out of some real gems and I still have some of them with the GBA. I then look at the 3DS and I see some fine games I'd love to take a crack at but we just get cut off from the stuff. There has been some RPGs like the Tales of...series, Dragon Quest, and more we didn't get I'd have bought. Back on the DS there was Soma Bringer which looked cool too.

Easy: Beyond the Labyrinth

It's a tri-Ace game so I want to at least give it a shot (even if some of their more recent games were underwhelming for me), but I don't want to play it so badly as to buy a Japanese 3DS at the current price. Maybe someday far down the road when a Japanese 3DS can be had for cheap, or maybe a miracle will happen and it'll get localized (I'm not holding my breath).

Assuming they're not E3 show offs this year, Bravely Default's sequel and Etrion Odyssey Untold 2. I think they'd both be fine releases people would enjoy. I'm curious if Dragon Quest Theaterhythm will make it here since the press keep talking it up as the franchise just doesn't have the impact FF does.

The only thing for me is the retail Sega 3D Classics collection that Japan recently saw (And its sequel when the remainder of the lineup hopefully receives a similar release).

Not much in the way of imports for the entire DS line that does anything for me, although I'd love to have a reproduction of the translated version of Retro Game Challenge 2 for the original DS.

Unfortrunately nothing translated to English.

I'd love to have a copy of Metal Saga 4. Even though its an RPG that I'm sure to never be able to play. Ditto Super Robot Wars UX.

There is literally no way either of these games don't come out in North America.

This one is a little more questionable because Dragon Quest X still has not appeared. Nintendo was publishing all the DS Dragon Quest games in North America, but they seem to have lost interest since the 3DS came out. EDIT: Never got the 3DS port of Dragon Warrior VII either. BAH. EDIT 2: Nintendo apparently only published two DQ games in North America, VI & IX. And Monsters Joker 2? Square-Enix did publish the rest.

That is why I questioned DQ. Nintendo used to pump people up over it, published a few of thetitles, they were overly published and with #9 undersold and after that nothing but lip service about 10 and anything else if that.

I want the 3DS to be region free, period. One firmware update from Nintendo would fix everything. Or whenever hackers get to custom firmware. Portable systems should never be region locked. EVER.

I believe Region locking has more to do with reverse importing (North American titles going to Japan), not necessarily visa versa. So the likelyhood of its being removed, depends on a lot of factors for Nintendo and their publishing partners.

THEY MADE A 3RD ONE?!

Retrogame Challenge is such an under the radar gem. Criminal that the second one never made it. Though... I guess it would be region free on the DS....

Yes, they made a third, and it twists me up about importing a Japanese system.

The second one on DS was a blast. Great mix of continuity from the first game and all new ones. I just wish I could have read all of the daily calendar challenges. I'm sure there's a decent walkthrough on those by now... I should play through it again.

The 3rd one, from what I've read, was a disaster. Everyone seems to hold a view towards it such as this article did.
