Hello
I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any good text based RPGS to play. I play a lot of everything from playstation 2 to odyssey 2. And I am looking for my next system to start collecting. I have never really played a text rpg but it seems like at least a different idea.

Do you mean old text games or MUDs???

If you mean older text games I always liked the Infocom games like Leather Goddesses of Phobos , The Lurking Horror, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy here's some more info on all their great games:

MUDs I can't help you with. Ive only played in one and that was like 3 years ago.

Or are you looking for something more like Moira or Rogue, which uses text symbols as "graphics?"

I think the dark mage game is exactly what I am looking for.
So any other suggestions along that vein would be greatly appreciated. MUDS have already taken up too much of my life.
Its sort of depressing sometimes when I realize how much time I spend playing some games.

Hmmm...if you're looking for CONSOLE text adventures, you might have a lot of trouble. After all, you can't type with a joystick. (And Dark Mage, though very, very cool, is very, very short. You should solve it in 30 minutes. The 2600 isn't exactly a computing powerhouse.)

Now, if you're interested in "click-and-point" adventures, there's a ton of them available on consoles. Let's help this guy out gang.

Off the top of my head, I can think of Maniac Mansion and King's Quest V for the NES. There was a Scooby Doo point and click for the Genesis and The Adventures of Willy Beamish for the Sega CD. What others can you think of?

This might make for a good Top 25 list and poll posted....oh, never mind. Forget that idea.

try looking in the IF archive. type that in google. go there, and there are gobs of free text adventures for pc and mac. text rpgs and adventures are more on old computers than on consoles. you can play the spectrum text games and others on a dreamcast emulator if you've got a keyboard. temple of apshai by epyx is an old rpg on computer.

you forgot to mention Shadowgate. My personal favorite point and click adventure. Did they make a lord of the rings text adventure for the 2600? I thought I read something about that on atariage.
