The classic Bob-Omb Battlefield was released as a free download last week. It's the work of programmer and Mario fan Roystan Ross, who rebuilt the level using the free Unity engine.
You can still download the game via Ross' personal website (https://roystanross.wordpress.com/super-mario-64-hd/#jp-carousel-216), although other mirrors appear to be disappearing (http://mario64-erik.u85.net/Web.html) (thanks, Nintendo Life (http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/03/nintendo_begins_takedown_proceedings_on_super_mari o_64_hd_fan_project).

Wasn't there a thread here predicting this exact outcome? Yeah, this is no surprise.
