I picked up a stack of Genesis carts at a thrift store this morning and didn't notice till later this evening that the box art for Decapattack was different from the copy I already had. The artwork fills more of the front cover, has the standard Genesis logo at the top but has "For use with the Sega Mega Drive Video Entertainment System" in small print at the bottom. The back cover is in multiple languages like a PAL Mega Drive release and the cart is the same as the US release.

Was this just something that Sega did for certain markets? Any info is much appreciated.

I totally didn't even think about it being a Canadian version. Now that I think of it, didn't the Canadian release of Sonic 1 have slightly different box art?

Sure did: http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_%28Mega_Drive%29 - check out the scans at the bottom.

I believe all Canadian releases of Genesis games with the multi-language backs are simply carbon copies of the European MegaDrive releases pardon the logo/name change. Further info: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?19848-Sega-Genesis-Canadian-variants
Seems Decap Attack was unconfirmed on sega-16, so perhaps I'll direct them to this topic.

Thanks for the link and if you want to use my pics to add to that Sega-16 thread you're more than welcome to.

I should look at the games I have and see about the boxes. I think I remember my Taz-Mania being a Canadian version. Fun coming across all of the variants over here as it's easy to find the US versions here too. :)

I always enjoy finding imports out in the wild, always makes me wonder how it got all the way to a thrift store in Louisiana of all places.

Heh, I have one of these too. I found it locally in Colorado as well, far away from Canada.
