An anonymous reader writes A new article out details how Valve bootstrapped their VULKAN back-end with the Source 2 Engine over a period of just four months thanks to relying on an open-source driver. With designing for the open-source Intel Vulkan Linux driver developed by LunarG, Valve developers were quickly able to resolve issues and progress the driver in a turn-key manner. This Intel Linux driver will be released as open-source once the Khronos VULKAN specification has been published.http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png (http://twitter.com/home?status=Valve+Bootstrapped+Source+2+Engine+On+ an+Open-Source+Vulkan+Driver%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fgames.slashdo t.org%2Fstory%2F15%2F04%2F04%2F0125226%2F%3Futm_so urce%3Dtwitter%26utm_medium%3Dtwitter)http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png (http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fgames.slashdot.org%2Fsto ry%2F15%2F04%2F04%2F0125226%2Fvalve-bootstrapped-source-2-engine-on-an-open-source-vulkan-driver%3Futm_source%3Dslashdot%26utm_medium%3Dface book)http://www.gstatic.com/images/icons/gplus-16.png (http://plus.google.com/share?url=http://games.slashdot.org/story/15/04/04/0125226/valve-bootstrapped-source-2-engine-on-an-open-source-vulkan-driver?utm_source=slashdot&utm_medium=googleplus)
