Man what a time to be a retro gamer with all of the awesome mods that are coming out my wallet can't take it. There are pics of the board in the description of the video as well.

Personally I think the S-Video is good enough. Though I suppose most newer HDTVs might not have S-Video any more.

That is the problem going forward. I would love to have a CRT for the rest of my gaming career but they are not going to last forever and I would much rather have something like this be built so they can maybe live on for a little longer. I am honestly surprised so many TVs still have some of the older ports. I think it is only going to get worse as 4K starts to become a standard.

Is there no such thing as an S-video to HDMI converter?

On a CRT I would be perfectly fine with S-Video, especially given that there are several great light gun games for DC. I have the VGA box and an HDMI upscaler so this project isn't useful to me. However, going forward we're going to see this more and more, the move to HDMI.

Yes there is:
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B2B9Z20/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1428451421&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&keywords=s+video+to+hdmi&dpPl=1&dpID=41WfTcIpZiL&ref=plSrch

I have the regular composite model and it works decently. Don't expect miracles, though. No noticeable lag.

This is a purely digital connection according to the forum I saw this posted in so it doesn't seem to be using any conversion from what I have read. Plus using upscalers to get "decent" results is not my idea of a great solution. The XRGB is really the only one I would invest in and I use invest because it is very expensive plus you have to buy the cables for your systems too. I would rather have it just be one thing I buy install and forget about it.

Where is this forum you speak of? I am definitely interested in this type of board., especially if it can be used in both the PlayStation 2 and Original Xbox systems.

That is the main thread for the two DC disc emulators and someone popped in and posted the video and some details. Obviously not completely ready for prime time but I am very excited.

Edit: This is the main thread that goes into more detail.

VGA's plenty good for me, but I guess it's starting to get the S-video treatment and getting left off of more and more TV's as time goes on. Shame, shame, shame. We really need more than 2 HDMI's and a shared composite/component hookup, manufacturers!

I agree. I was using VGA on my old TV but we upgraded and now I am without VGA and I don't want to keep a monitor just for the DC. It is a shame that shaving some pennies off the price is cutting connections that some people have use for.
