View Full Version : Rodea: The Sky Soldier (Wii U, 3DS, Wii*)
(*The Wii version of Rodea: The Sky Soldier is included with the Wii U version of the game.)
So who will be picking this up? It's an aerial action adventure from Yuji Naka's team over at Prope. A way of describing it is as NiGHTS into Dreams in true 3D crossed with Shadow of the Colossus, Mega Man Legends, and Inuyasha, with modern and classic action gameplay tossed into the mix.
Not only is this game getting a physical retail release (a rarity these days!), but it is also getting a Limited Edition. Unfortunately like most of the games which NIS America publishes, the LE is only available from NISA's online store.
Check out what is included in the Limited Edition of Rodea: The Sky Soldier:
---
A physical copy of the game
A hardcover art book
A 10-song original soundtrack with jewel case
"Key of Time" pendant with chain
Collector’s box
Limited Editions are available for both Wii U and 3DS. The Wii U Rodea LE costs $75. The 3DS LE version costs $55. In other words, the limited editions cost only $15 more than the standard editions. Considering what is included with the LE's, I think that is a fair price.
Of course, if this were a release by Victor Ireland's Working Designs, not only would it be cheaper for the LE's, but they would contain 2x the stuff! Then again, if WD had published this, it would still be 2-3 more years until its release date instead of just September 22nd.

So there's a separate disc for Wii? Hmm.....

Never been sold on Naka as a great game maker, but that said I've been watching this and I'd snap that physical 3DS game up when it arrives as I like its style.

Has it been OFFICIALLY confirmed if the Wii version is included?

Has it been OFFICIALLY confirmed if the Wii version is included?
From the official NIS forums:
We are planning to make pre-orders for the 3DS and WiiU versions available through our online store, and the first print run of the WiiU version will include the Wii version of the game. Since pre-orders are reserved from this first print run, pre-ordering the WiiU version once pre-orders are announced will pretty much guarantee you both the WiiU and Wii versions of the game. If you wait until launch to buy the game, the odds of you getting a first print copy and receiving the Wii version will be much slimmer.

Already preordered the LE of this on the NISA store. I'm actually more excited to play the Wii version than the Wii U one.
I believe that the Wii version of Rodea will be included on the Wii U disc, not as its own separate Wii disc. Which is a shame, as I don't have a Wii U yet, but I would buy the Wii U version to get a separate disc with the Wii version to play on my good old white Wii if it were possible.

I am too. The Wii version is complete, more action-orientated, and what Yuji Naka's original vision for the game was. The Wii U and 3DS version is the RPG-ified version of the game which the Japanese publisher, (the evil) Kodansha, wanted Rodea to be reformed into.
I guess we'll see which one gamers prefer, and how that breaks down according to old school versus new school versus casual players.

I read an article that it was confirmed that first-run copies of the limited edition will have a separate, with box, Wii version.
I took the plunge. With this probably being the last retail Wii game ever along with it being pretty dang cool looking, I couldn't pass it up.

While I didn't pay for mine using paypal, I did notice that the LE set have not sold out yet. You should still be able to make another preorder with a different card.

Hello ,
Your order has not been cancelled, no need to worry!* Also, no money has been collected yet for this order, your account has only undergone the initial authorization.* When we get closer to the 9/22/2015 release date, we will use a Paypal transaction ID that can be reauthorized.* As long as funds are available in your account at that time, there should be no delay in processing your order.* We apologize for any confusion!* Let us know if you have any other questions.

Mine showed the subtraction as well but now that dollar amount has a line through it.

So the original edition will not have the Wii version on a separate disc, or is it that it will not have a separate case for the Wii disc?

I preordered the game from amazon. The description mentioned the Wii version would be included. Didn't mention Wii version not being able to run on an actual Wii, so it would most likely be its own disc.

According to a tweet on NISA's Twitter account, the Wii version will have on its own physical disc. However, they haven't said whether the Wii version will get its own separate case, like the Japanese release.

I don't care how they end up releasing the Wii version, I'm just excited to try it out. From the videos I've seen and the impressions I've read online, it sounds like the Wii game is the definitive version.
The controls for Wii U and 3DS versions seem really clunky and inaccurate.

Why is everyone so concerned with a Wii version?

Why is everyone so concerned with a Wii version?
Because some of us don't have Wii U's.

And some of us fortunately have neither and can get it on 3DS. :D

Also, the Wii and WiiU versions have completely different control schemes. On the WiiU, you move by drawing on the touch screen. On the Wii, you use the Wiimote in fluid movements similar to the Nights remake. Apparently the WiiU version doesn't support the Wiimote control scheme which is why some people prefer the Wii version.

The Wii also has better graphics.

"Hey guys, we need to make this game look next-gen for the Wii U."
"How about we make everything look brown?"
"No, that is soooooo cliché."
"I got it! We make everything purple!"
"Brilliant idea! Except we should only do that when it is dark. During the day we should tint everything green."
"This game is going to look more next-gen than next-gen."

I have to admit, I have no fucking idea what's going on in this game. It looks interesting to me because it looks like an action-adventure game for the 3DS. These are few and far between on the system.
It seems pretty stupid to release an entirely different port for a dead console, instead of just including different control schemes for the WiiU thing. Both schemes sound gimmicky, touch or motion(flailing arms)?
I see people commenting on clunky controls? You've played a demo or something? How would you know if they're clunky without playing a finished product?
I'm not seeing better graphics in that video. This thing is looking overly-cutesy-anime, I hope they get rid of those annoying voices, good lord. I might pull out, its looking more like an rpg intended for babies...

Yes, it was just as stupid then for Nintendo to not include both control options in the Wii version as it would be in this game (if that is the significant difference).

If I'm not mistaken, the Wii version was done already but never released. Soooo.....why not release an already finished game as part of a "limited edition" set?
Wii version was finished in 2010 by developer Prope w/ Yuji Naka. Publisher Kadokawa Shoten said, "No can do, we want this game slower, we want touch controls, and we want RPG elements." Publisher took 5 years to make Wii U & 3DS versions with what it wanted. Yuji Naka was P.O.'d. Game was eventually released this year in Japan, US, EU.

Yep, mine got here. It got here a day early, even. Haven't been feeling well enough to play it thoroughly enough. From what I've played, the Wii version is the better game. I hope the Wii Remote and Nunchuck option on the Wii U version let you play it more similarly to the Wii version.
