Man, it's almost 10 days into the month and no one has started a Finds thread for the month. Sad times. :(

Anyway, I picked up a few things here lately. I found a Wario: Master of Disguise for DS at a Mom n' Pop. It was priced at $4.99 but the guy knows I'm a somewhat regular so I got it for $3.99. :)

I've also found that GameStop has marked down prices on new games and was able to pick up Ar NoSurge: Ode To An Unborn Star on PS3 for $20.99 (Unsure why they chose that price :?) and Hatsune Miku Project Diva 2nd on Vita for $21.97. The Ar NoSurge was a display copy and they've switched from using clear stickers to putting them in clear baggies but the Hatsune Miku was in the original shrink wrap. :D

They were also running a 4 for $10 promotion and I used that to pick up the 3 Uncharted games as well as a Move title called Medieval Moves for the kids to mess around with.

Wow, this thread... /shakes head

Anyway, I've had an alert set up on Amazon Warehouse Deals for a year or two, and it finally went off a few days ago. Wii Fritz Chess for not quite $30, in great shape. Not the greatest deal, but it seems like a cool game to have.

wow what happened to this thread???

anyway, i had some luck at a local pawn shop today....

i got all the following games for $2 each ....

haunted grounds
RE 2, and RE 3 for GCN
RE 4, Outbreak, and Outbreak files for PS2
Area 51 ps2
silent hill 4 ps2
cold fear ps2
extermination ps2

I was shocked after doing some research online of just how pricey haunted grounds for ps2 is.....

All of the games came with the orginal cases...HOWEVER not one of them had the manual......HOWEVER.... 4 of the ps2 games each had a memory card in the case...all 1st party...so overall $21 for everything...not a bad day

wow what happened to this thread???

eBay resellers snatching up everything worth selling, inspired by countless YouTube videos and TV reality shows. And a huge surge in retro gaming means not as many people getting rid of their old stuff, and what does hit the sales floor in thrifts gets grabbed up by little Timmy to find out what the big deal is with these old game systems. Plus, most of the people here (non-resellers) who have been contributing to these finds threads have filled up their collections quite a bit and aren't buying much because the things they're looking for tend to be extra hard to find.

Or in my case, it's lack of money, plus lack of time to post my finds. Anyway, here's what I've bought in the past two months.

Games:

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (New) - $44.99

This will be sitting in the backlog until such time that I can afford a New 3DS.

Ducktales Remastered (New, Disc Version) - $19.99

The game feels like it could be a multi-part episode from the TV series.

Dragon Quest IV DS (Used, Complete) - $33.00

My local shop had a "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" sale going on. I needed DQ IV for my collection, but I couldn't anything else in the shop that I wanted. So I decided to pick a game that I could sell to recoup my cost on DQ IV. I chose a cart only copy of Lufia & The Fortress of Doom, which I then sold for $40.00.

Pikmin 2 Wii (Used, Complete) - $14.99

Animal Crossing City Folk (Used, Complete) - $4.99

I tried both of the Wii games, but discovered they weren't my types of games. So I ended up trading them, and few other things, to my local shop towards:

Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete (Case, Discs & Manual) - $99.99

Now normally I wouldn't buy an incomplete copy of the game for such a high price. However, several years ago I got the outer box, OST disk, and omake box for free. Plus, with my trade-ins I didn't have pay anything out of pocket either.

Pre-order:

Rodea The Sky Soldier (Wii U Version)

Although I don't have a Wii U, I'm pre-ordering it so I can get the original Wii version that's comes with the first print run of the game

Other Stuff:

Ducktales The Movie (New) - $9.99

I recently discovered that Wal-Mart had exclusive rights to sell this movie at retail. Previously it was only available through Disney's movie rewards club.

Sailor Moon Volume 11 (New) - $6.99

The wife and I were at a charity garage sale a couple of weeks ago, and she found a box with a Genesis Model 2 and Sega CD for only $5. It's missing a couple of cables, but it did include a complete copy of Shining Force CD. The Sega CD works great, and I didn't have one, so it was a great find.

My wife and I went out and hit some garage sales inbetween the rain on Friday and I found two Wii consoles for $10 each, one works and one wont read discs and both are missing the doors on the top of the consoles, I will buy the parts and repair them and resell them though.

I went to another sale and found an Atari 5200 four port with 7 games for $40, glad i talked him down as he wanted way more and it looks like it has to be repaired as well. I am pretty versed in console repair now though so no worries.

I've only had time for ebay and one store this month. Picked up a couple, though.

River City Super Sports Challenge for DS new for $14
Dungeons & Dragons Mystara Chronicles for Japanese PS3 for $27
3 Kunio black & white GB games (Koushinkyoku, Soccer, and Nekketsu Kouha) for $11
Valis on Famicom for $8
Doraemon 2 for Super Famicom for $5
Lupin III for Super Famicom for $15

Edit: Almost forgot! Paid full retail, but I picked up a brand new copy of the PS3 remake of Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke Daiundoukai. I love that game, and the remake is pretty sweet!

I was pretty shocked to go to my favorite thrift and find an Atari Lynx (model 1) sitting in a glass case for $24.95. I walked around the store to think whether or not I needed another Lynx, and ultimately decided to get it. I already have my original plus a couple model 2 units I picked up as extras when they were still on the market, I didn't need another. But... this one came with a power plug. I didn't ever have a reliable power plug, the one that came with my first one had a broken wire and I never wanted to rely on it. So, that clinched it for me. It comes with Awesome Golf, Blue Lightning, Hard Drivin', Warbirds, and California Games, plus manual posters for Awesome Golf and Hard Drivin'.

You can't tell very well from the picture, but everything is covered with grime. The case is badly discolored and gritty to the touch, and the Lynx desperately needs a good cleaning with a Clorox wipe. The case is the 2.0 version with little clear plastic flaps covering the pockets so the games don't spill out. Mine was the original, where if you lay it down flat all the games flop out of their pockets. I'd still rather use the original, since this bag is filthy.

I had gotten a copy of Shining Force CD some years back for $5 from a local store, and I was positively elated.

It's a very good game. I hope you enjoy it.

From what I can tell, it looks like the Sega CD itself doesn't have enough memory for me to be able to play and finish the game. I might need to hunt down the RAM cartridge.

Bingo, it's hard enough to find anything anymore, let alone very specific niche items. I'm after specific 80s/90/s big box pc games, tandy color computer items and atari starpath supercharger cassette games. Those items were rare a decade ago and they're certainly rarer than a yeti sighting now. I'm almost exclusively online for purchases now although I check out a store now and then if I'm in an area.

However to keep the thread on track, I did find a loose F-Zero for the SNES for $5 last weekend. Nothing earth shattering but it was on my wish list and anything nintendo that isn't a sports game for $5 is a great deal nowadays.

I will go through phases, like Xbox collecting or Genesis/Sega CD stuff, but it always comes back to the Atari 2600 for me. It's what I always hope to find primarily, and anything else is just a bonus. But it's 2015, most people got rid of their Atari stuff decades ago. There's just less and less interesting stuff in the wild now. Which is why I get so happy when I find a rarity now, like Boing a month or two ago.

My other problem is that twice a week I'm scheduled to work midnight to 8am. That really throws off my sleeping schedule, and I'm a bit of an insomniac to begin with, it means it's insanely hard for me to get up early enough to flea market shop. I can't tell you how many times I meant to get up early on a Saturday, but turn the alarm off and go back to sleep. I don't get many chances to catch up on my sleep. Couple that with the fact that those buttmunchers "The Game Chasers" have cleaned out all the local flea markets, and there's not much point anymore. I also don't do online purchases (mainly to not feed the resellers) so it's local finds or nothing for me.

I've never watched their show, and I had no idea they were from around here. That might help to explain why I have never found anything in a Goodwill, and I've rarely found anything in Canton or Traders Village.

I seriously doubt 2 guys are going to make that much of a difference in an area like dallas

any way my recent finds were

Chibi-Robo Park Patrol on DS for $5 new
King of Fighers XI on PS2 for $5 new
Zone of Enders HD on PS3 for $10 new

found all these at a walmart near by

I seriously doubt 2 guys are going to make that much of a difference in an area like dallas

But they're also inspiring lots of other people locally to go out and start grabbing up everything they find. I used to work with one of those guys. I'm not exactly a fan of the show because of that.

I meant to go flea market shopping today, but constant thunderstorms all morning waking me up and a lot of the roads flooding out on my planned route means I stayed in bed until 4 in the afternoon.

Decided to venture up to the flea markets today. At the first one I went to a guy who I deal with infrequently and found 4 CIB Genesis games for about $7 each including James Pond: Underwater Agent, Dynamite Duke, After Burner II, and Super Thunder Blade. At the other flea across the street, the only thing that caught my eye was a Vita game Toukiden: The Age of Demons which I got for $10. :)

I met the game chasers last year when they were shopping at a local convention. I was helping my friend run his booth and they were both making the rounds both as "attractions" and buying up stuff. Pat the nes punk posts videos of him shopping flea markets on his website. Personally I find it amusing. If someone is willing to get up that early and work that hard to get video games, go for it. I sleep in and play Japanese games. Nowhere near as much competition for those.

May 15th:

Bought a N64 (no expansion pack) + Two controllers and a bunch of games for $11 at a yard sale. Same day, went to "The Exchange" store and sold it for $63.

808280838081

22nd or 23rd:

No photos, but bought: A Wii & Games, a GBA & GBA SP, Four GBA Games, Three DS games, one Game Boy Color game and a PSP game for $32.50. Sold for $62, also on the same day.

I offered $25 for all the Wii stuff and got it for that, included was Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 plus Super Paper Mario among other games.

I didn't post it, but last year I found a boxed SNES with multiple boxed games (Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 and Illusion of Gaia to name a few) for $10. Games at low prices are still around.

I'm looking for another working SNES (model doesn't matter) in a yard sale with two controllers and a copy of "Zombies Ate My Neighbors". There was a time then I found a really near-mint conditioned complete copy for a dollar, and I sold it. I got it in like 2004-2005 though, before all this video game collecting became more popular.

I've been collecting all my life, once I'm done with a console sticking it in a Rubbermaid tub until the next time I want to break it out rather than selling it like a lot of people do. But it was only 2003 and 2004 where I started hitting thrift stores and flea markets. Before that it was a few electronic junk stores and pawn shops. I went to the Austin Game Expo 2003, met a bunch of like-minded people, joined Atari Age, and started taking their advice and checking out thrifts. So I technically did start really "hardcore" collecting from the wild around that time.

I had a local store that was the best place for me to buy imports for about 15 years, but it shut down I guess a year or two ago now, so then I turned to ebay. Now probably 95% or more comes from ebay, as stores like play-asia and NCSX are as high or higher most of the time, and imports are only available at one or two local stores, and in very short supply.

Niku-Sama
05-27-2015, 07:14 AM
I don't have any imports readily available at any time where I am at except for ebay.
I have found a few in goodwill which is odd considering where I am located but I guess any things possible, I have found more valuable gaming stuff in the trash.
One of the imports I found was that 5 disc set for Riven on PSX, seems to be complete and in decent shape. I saw one case and grabbed it and a friend saw the other, glad he did otherwise it might have been lost for ever.

any way back on topic...

I got a wii today for $5. says "defect" on it.
it was from a pawn shop, you know they test the things as they come in so I know it was working recently. could have been a bad power brick or something.
luckily I have an extra wii cord some where and I think cables aswell. its a backwards compatable one so i'll do some 480p game cube and home brew on this wii so I can leave my launch system intact.

this wii is wii #3, I have a launch system, a blue black Friday system that's never been opened and now this one. wii's are gonna get hella cheap hella fast, I feel it'll be a repeat of the NES and 25 years down the road find a median price of $45 for a decent shape system with a controller

I doubt it has anything to do with resellers. There have always been(for at least the past 15 years) and will always be resellers but thats never stopped me from finding stuff in my many Goodwills, Savers, flea markets and yard sales every single week. The reason why I stopped posting all my finds in here was because all the dialogue and discussions we use to have in here years ago has died. And for someone like me who regularly posted pics it was even worse because not only was there no more discussion going on but I was also wasting my time posting pics when at least 90% of everyone else still post without pics and people seem to generally not care about pics anymore. I still find good stuff all the time and will continue to post some of my finds but my last post a few months ago had about 6 pics covering my finds for the last several months(since I was away for a bit) but no discussion came from any of them so going forward I won't be posting any more pics with my finds. It seems like thats what everyone is use to now anyway.

As for my finds, I got The legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D(both for 3DS) for $33.99 total at Best Buy last week during a buy one get one 50% off one day sale. I also picked up Lego Batman 3(360) for $10 at TRU, Sunset Overdrive(XBO) for $11 and Titanfall for $6.39 at Best Buy. I actually found a lot more stuff when you factor in my flea market and Goodwill finds the last couple weeks but I really don't feel like listing all of those.

I got a sega CD model 2 version for $20 bucks. some one "tested" it but I don't think they knew what they were doing, no leaky bulgy caps or corrosion inside but I just did a visual.
my guess is that they were trying to use it with just the one ac adapter

also got ridge racer revolution for $1 and a PSX for free-ish.

those big bins infront of the registers at K B Toys yielded some awesome games I still own to this date, for hella cheap. MegaMan 6 came out of those bins, I think it was $5.

any way last day for finds. I was hoping to list my pocket station on this but its stuck in Portland still so next month.

I had an idea for the finds thread and the forum as a whole

maybe award one of the users from the monthly finds thread with a badge with something along the lines of "Finder of the month: [insert month and year here]"

maybe put it up to a short vote, not an official vote but like nominations from within this thread, like I would nominate Steve W for that Lynx, not only because you don't find many Lynx systems any more but more so because of the fact that they saved it even though they own, from what it sounds, a few others they bought this one and kept it from a possible demise and keeping it going

I always liked markdowns in the '80s. There was a place called Hyper Mart (a partnership between Wal-Mart and another chain, which became the precursor for Wal-Mart's Superstore designs) that had marked down all their Atari XEGS titles, since I made jack squat back then I could only afford five. I wish I could go back and buy up all the other titles they had, it's next to impossible for me to find Atari XEGS games without going online. And speaking of markdowns, after the Xbox 360 had come out, the store chain Fry's Electronics started marking down their old Xbox games to crazy prices. I blew close to $100 at one store and walked out with two bulging bags of new sealed games. Good times. I went from having around 40 titles to having over 250 within the year.

I would nominate Steve W for that Lynx, not only because you don't find many Lynx systems any more but more so because of the fact that they saved it even though they own, from what it sounds, a few others they bought this one and kept it from a possible demise and keeping it going
I came across a video that showed a guy installing a screen upgrade kit into his Lynx, and the difference is light night and day. I'm considering doing the same thing, but I'm worried about the soldering. I have only used a soldering iron a couple times before, in really limited ways. I'm not sure I have the skills to do the upgrade. It might be worth it, though, when the results are so incredible.

That's not what I meant exactly, (I only just saw this reply) I was saying more like once the Wii Virtual Console came out and Angry Video Game Nerd became much more well-known to the point of having hundreds of thousands of people knowing about him it turned much more popular. Like before, I could get a working Virtual Boy for $2.99 and as a matter of fact did some years ago. The whole thing does have its perks now, I just saw an Atari 5200 in the wild for the first time for a not unreasonable price of $45; at a dealer's table, no complaints here.
