View Full Version : How To Sell A Collection Without Getting Jipped?

I have no idea where to start. Pretty much every relevant 3DS game in existence, as well as some trash games. All of the big box LE/Collector's Editions etc. And a New 3DSXL system with every eshop game under the sun downloaded to it. Not interested in giving ebay money or dealing with dumbass buyers who would complain about a small crease in the corner of a cardboard box either. Not looking to profit, I just want it out of my life.

So, you have a collection of old games, some of which you probably paid a lot for.

1. You don't want to "get jipped"
2. You don't want to use eBay
3. You don't want to deal with people
4. You don't want to profit
5. You want it out of your life

1 and 4 seem to contradict each other, and it doesn't sound like you're willing to do the work to get the maximum value via auction. Either this is important to you, in which case you should do the work to find a good buyer (or keep it and try to enjoy it), or it isn't, in which case you should just let it go.

Maybe a charitable donation would be best?

I don't want to deal with people on ebay. Nothing contradicts each other. I don't want to profit but I'm not going to give it away. I at least want to get some of my money back. If you have nothing worth saying or advice, kindly keep your ass out of my thread

This appears to be turning ugly quickly.

Regardless, why do you want it out of your life? Just curious since you obviously started collecting for the 3DS for a reason. Selling on Ebay would lose you a good 13% of the gross, not to mention shipping loss would factored into the buyers offer, so not going that route is understandable -- but it would give you the largest consumer base, which may result in an offer that offsets the commission fees. I suggest you do some calculations and come up with a bare minimum you would sell it for on Ebay and either set the auction at that price, or set a reserve. See what happens.

I think this thread can be salvaged; everyone only needs to be civil from here on out. So let's all be a bit more tolerant of each other and let bygones be bygones. (It's not that I think things have gotten too far out of hand, but let's make sure we stay in bounds.)

FR, why don't you try the Buying and Selling sections on Digital Press and Nintendo Age? That way you don't have to deal with eBay or Game Gavel auctions or Buy-It-Now listings, you pay less in fees, and you can set the terms and conditions of sale.

Very good advice. Could not agree more. IMHO, I would only add the idea of an "As Is" sale coupled with "What you see is what you get" along with some excellent photos of the merchandise. This type of approach just might do the trick. This has helped me in the past keeping the nitpicky buyers at bay. In any event, best of luck getting a fair deal on the sale of your collection.

Because he's suddenly offended by Nintendo's NES-era marketing tactics as well as their right to protect their IP. He's got a whole thread on it.

I'm going to be blunt here.

Who fucking cares? If he's fed up with Nintendo, good, a burden to be offloaded and forgotten. If he wants out, he wants out, respect it.

I wrote him a PM, he's got a few things I think I'd love to take off his hands if parting it out is something he's up for since ebay is a distasteful hole, and some collector forums will probably get all anal about little folds and creases which this site is not. My advice, to start, take a better all inclusive picture (and I mean same image, but higher resolution) so you can read the spines on the lot of them. I could eyeball probably 75% of it but some I can't even make out. That is a lot of solid to mediocre level 3DS stuff there, much variety, so it will definitely be easily scooped up if you're true to your word of taking a hit, but not a pounding. Coming in notably under ebay, but not crazy eddy prices where it's pennies to the dollar would clear most of it quick. I'd hold back a gem or two, then take all the $1-5 stuff that'll be hard and shove it in a bundle. Even if it's not on ebay, a forum based reseller could use the fodder. Even junkier stuff like THOR would be movable due to the 2nd Avengers movie being hot right now.

If you just gave up but have the most recent of releases a game like Puzzle and Dragons, or even some older stuff like Mario Kart 7 I'd perhaps take along with a few others.

Because I'm done with videogames, they don't interest anymore. Nothing does. I'd just like to take the money and go on one final vacation/binge.

I hear too many stories of ebay buyers opening disputes for the dumbest reasons and ripping people off. Not to mention Paypals shadiness. I don't even know how to get the cash in my hand from paypal. I never sold anything on ebay before.

And how would I be able to clear my name/account from the 3ds without wiping out all the downloaded games on it? Don't want the next person to be identity thieving me. Would anybody out there even be interested in such a massive collection to buy all at once?

Thanks for the advice.

You can't remove the account without killing the games on the 3DS. That's one you left off your fuck you Nintendo rant thread. When people say the games are attached to the system, it's not just the system, but also the system+the account. So even if your 3DS is stolen and you buy another, just because it's listed to your 'account' doesn't mean Nintendo will automatically choose to give you your stuff back since it's not the same system. That's why people get pissed off at them over their halfassed account system. Even after they talked up the network IDs, they still stuck the system and the game together as one.

You might as well either give someone your account, or write off that shit exists and just format it like fresh out of the box.

Is there a way to clear the credit card I used on it? I wouldn't mind letting the next person use the account as long as my personal info isn't still stored on it. There's literally about 300 bucks of content on it. Might make it more valuable if I keep them on there.

Yes, don't remember how, but you can tell it to forget any setting you want. I just never let it save mine, but I did see there was or should be an erase option. Just google the steps, would not be surprised if it had a youtube video of it.

I don't even know how to get the cash in my hand from paypal. I never sold anything on ebay before.
You attach a bank account to your Paypal account, and then can transfer the money from Paypal into the bank account through the website. Which is what I do generally, if I don't have anything to spend it on currently. Although I did set up a specific bank account just for Paypal, in case of any chargebacks. As soon as the money is in that account, I transfer it out into my proper main account.

If you sell it as a collection you'll take a bigger hit than if you part it out HOWEVER if you part it out you'll end up stuck with some pieces that you're going to have to either sell for pennies on the dollar or just donate to charity or something. Pick your poison.

As for your system, you could simply get a new credit card issued with a new number from your cc company and not care if the new owner has the old information as it'd be useless OR just delete it all.
