View Full Version : Is it time to start collecting 7th generation?

I like to collect when the games are cheapest and most available. I think it's time to start collecting 7th gen. While late 7th gen is ongoing and games are still relatively current and expensive (I got Skyrim Legendary Edition today for $25.19, and got it primarily to play, not collect) I noticed in my local Game Stop that many of the 7th gen games are cheap (as low as 99 cents!) and they had a whole rack of 7th gen games under $5. Also Game Stop no longer carries PS2 in my area. GCN and Xbox have been gone for a few years. The nearest place that carries PS2 is 14.4 miles from where I live, and a lot of traffic. 6th gen stuff is still fairly cheap there but the Game Stop is only 3.7 miles away and little traffic. I was born in 1992 so closeness matters. So if I'm going to get 6th gen I better have plenty of money to load up.

That and I think the prices are starting to creep up on Xbox and GCN. I got 100 PS2 games for $20 back on September 22, 2012. They were disc only but still that's one heck of a deal and I could probably flip those games and get $200 off of them all put together. PS2 still seems to be very cheap for now but with the 7th gen becoming cheap and the pain in the neck drive to get 6th gen and earlier I'm thinking it's time to load up on earlier PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii games. Nintendo shit never gets cheap but still it's probably bottomed out on the Wii.

If anyone is looking to open a classic game store in White House, TN, you have an audience

What do you think?

I'm already doing this. I don't have a lot of cash to spend at the game store these days, but when I do, I always come home with at least one 360 or Wii game on top of any retro stuff I get. Hopefully, my financial situation will improve soon and I can really take advantage of the low prices on 7th gen stuff.

I have a really powerful PC and a PS4, but lately I've been playing my PS3. I might even dust of a 360 to catch up on some games that have been sitting in my pile of shame.

Yeah, it's been 2 years since the new gen of consoles have launched. Now is the perfect time to get those games on the cheap. I'm predicting that in February or March, we'll see a lot of unsold games being sold on the cheap, to make room for the Xbox One and PS4. Time to get a few of those low-print RPGs, before the prices jump up on Ebay.

Im buying Wii games. I have a feeling a lot of these are going to go up in price. Has anyone played Nier? I believe its going up in price. Very average game.

The guys over at Game Critics love Nier. I've heard them mention it on a few of their podcasts.

I like Nier. I was on the fence, but when it turned into a text adventure for awhile, I fell in hard.

Yes, now is the time to clean up while everything is pretty available. Over the next couple of years we should have all of this at bottom dollar.

I believe you're correct, hitting up older PS3 RPG's and hidden gems could prove fruitful. I think it's a good time to hit up PSP--many new or complete copies still being sold off in that $5-10 range and Gamestop is initializing their cleanout.

The time was last year. PS2, GCN, DS, & and PSP have all been spiking pretty hard this year across the board.

Now is the time to start working on PS3 & Wii IMO

I agree prices are low right now but will go up especially on the low print run titles (RPGS mostly I'm sure) I may get into this stuff but I'm gonna focus on things I want to play
