There was a time where FMV was supposed to be the future of gaming. During this awkward period in history what was your favorite or most tolerable FMV game and for what system? This one was mine.

As long as you did not say Sewer Shark I can agree with almost any other pick.

Oh, my, no. I did almost say Lunacy on Saturn, though.

Always been crap at the things because it's all short term memorization which I'm a lost cause with ...but I will throw it to Dragon's Lair (with DL2 Timewarp and Space Ace on its heels.) I think MadDog McCree was too right? That was an alright FMV gun game. Mind you the stuff I'm listing are cartoons, but it's video with an option laid over it.

Wing Commander III had the best actors.

No doubt, Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell and John Rhys Davies. They lined up a hell of an acting cast for a video game of all things back when it was pretty unheard of, even that Rachel girl came from a porno background, and of course Maniac from Back to the Future fame Biff. There's a few others you can place a face to but not so much a name or a movie as well. They did return in WC4 too.

I'll throw Road Blaster (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_Blaster) out there. It's also the only (and, of course, unofficial) FMV game on the Super Nintendo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xy2DtTMnK9Y) that I'm aware of.

Also legitimately released on the Sega CD as "Road Avenger" which was probably the best way to play it until recently.

The only one I really remember that I enjoyed was Double Switch. It may have been one of my first Sega CD games. Wirehead was pretty fun to play as well.

FMV games have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. They combine two of my greatest loves: Bad B-movies and video games. Some of my personal favorites were Fox Hunt, Corpse Killer, Ground Zero Texas, Burn Cycle, Wirehead, Double Switch, Space Pirates and Night Trap. So naturally two of my favorite systems to collect for are the Sega CD and 3DO. I've often wondered if the footage from these games still exists somewhere, waiting to be remastered for a new high-def generation! Or maybe the FMV scenes could just be cut into a continuous movie, that would be pretty cool to see... "American Laser Games presents a Digital Pictures production of a Steven Spielberg film..." LOL

I like Night Trap on 3DO a lot. Also, while not my favorite, Battle Heat on PC-FX was awesomely unique, being a fighter where 2 players react to each other's inputs.

I wasn't aware of that SNES port, looks really good.

Just to name a game not mentioned yet, there's The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery.

Would it be acceptable to also list things that were partial FMV, like with actors? If so I think stuff like 7th Guest, 11th Hour and Phantasmagoria would fit nicely in this topic.

I'm going to have to go with my first FMV game, I've always liked it even though I never managed to get more than halfway through it - Pyramid Patrol on the Pioneer Laseractive. Sadly the only other game I have for the Laseractive is Rocket Coaster. At least having the Sega Pak meant I could play Sega CD games for FMV goodness.

I'm going to have to say Namco's Star Blade would be my second choice. A lot of it was spooled off a laserdisk player with foreground polygon elements added in, so it kind of counts.

Strahl on 3DO. I know its just an anime Dragons Lair clone but it blew me away the first time I saw it just like Dragons Lair, Space Ave, etc. Did back in the day.

Road Blaster and Lunacy are both great fmv games for the Saturn.

I legitimately enjoyed the 32X version of Night Trap. Time Gal is probably my favorite animated one, but Road Avenger looks like it would be up there, too, from what I've seen. I've never played it yet. Actually, I wonder if I own it...

hmm.....

Yep, looks like a I have a boxed copy on my shelf. I just night give it a try this weekend.

I also used to sort of like the 3DO version of Brain Dead 13.

Hey I got one no one probably is going to think of, and it like Road Blaster is a blatant anime ripoff as well of Galaxy Express 999 and it's Escape From Cyber City. I owned this back in the day, and I got so pissed at it as I could never remember the sequences beyond about 1/2 into the game, usually I'd get blown up earlier in some narrow corridors in the streets. All in all it's a very short game if you know every press, though there are variations in the scenes and paths that are random which makes it all the more painful so it's not as short as this youtube video makes it to be, but it's not 20min game like Road Blaster. This was on the CDI only I believe, yes I owned one, it's also where I played Space Ace the first time and Dragon's Lair too.

Half tempted to get road blaster if it's still working/up for my iphone, but I fear I'd flip my shit and throw the phone. :P At least it's in an otter defender case now.

Road Avenger is great and very well balanced. Strahl is awesome, but I found it to be easy. I really like the Saturn Time Gal/Ninja Hayate set and the two Mansion of Hidden Souls games, which are related to Lunacy. I like D, too. Enemy Zero is my favorite Saturn game, but it also has FPS sequences.

Escape from Cyber City I still have. It is hard as all shit.

Drug Wars on 3DO always cracked me up. "Joo think joo can mess with the Lopez? Joo got another thing comin'!"

Sometimes I wish I still had that CDI. My dad was feeling like a dick some years ago, maybe 6-9mo before I moved back to CA for 3 years (so like 6 now about) and threw the thing out as I had it stored in the garage. I had Link Faces of Evil, Hotel Mario, Cyber City, Lords of the Rising Sun, Voyeur (another that would qualify for this thread), Mutant Rampage Bodyslam(final fight clone), 7th Guest, The Manhole, Chaos Control, Burn Cycle, Tetris, and a few others. It got a bad wrap to a point, but some was justified as it really wasn't meant for games.

By the way, surely illegal yet it appears the copyright holder doesn't care, but the whole Galaxy Express 999 dub is up on youtube if anyone wants to source out that Cyber City game.

For some reason I have always like Ground Zero Texas for the Sega CD, and also Crime Patrol for the 3DO.

I guess I didn't consider point and click games like Mansion of Hidden Souls and D as FMV games, I guess they are though. I love Mansion of Hidden Souls, the SECA CD original mainly.

If they have live actors mugging at the camera in low compression. It's FMV.

Soft spot for Who Shot Johnny Rock simply for the setting alone.

Ground Zero Texas is my favorite FMV game for sure...

It would be sweet to get a Digital Pictures collection on modern consoles with the FMV video quality dramatically improved, and the sound remixed, etc, etc. Basically modernized a bit. I did put money in on that kickstarter for Night Trap but it didn't pan out. Sucks that everything else is coming back except FMV. I guess it's just too damned expensive to try to remaster that stuff.

If you want to play with some DVD quality, Combat Queen on PS2 was an early 2000s take from Taito. I liked it.

For me it's a tie between Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within and Phantasmagoria 1&2. Also really love the Dragon's Lair Trilogy even though I'm god awful at them.
