Mario Tennis GBC worth it?

Has anyone played this game and can they give me some feedback on it? I've read that it has an RPG element, but is it actually done well? Can you actually play with the Mario Characters at some point or is it just the generic character they give you? I'm about on the verge of buying it and want to make sure it is not terrible. Thanks.

It's basically Mario Golf GBC but Tennis style. You played that? Expect that, but instead of golf course, it's like Mario Pong on the tennis court instead. Same general production values, tight controls, and all the other little nuances. Basically just like golf on GBC, it's the better of the two releases between the handheld and n64.

If it's an option, play World Court Tennis on Turbografx if you want a real tennis RPG that plays like Dragon Warrior, but with random Tennis match encounters.

Ive played it and its pretty good. I dont remember all too much about it (been years since I played it), but it was a game I picked up thinking 'this is not gonna be good' but I ended up playing it for awhile and really enjoying it. Its a good tennis game and I think you can level up your skills.
As long as its not expensive I would get it.
