View Full Version : Leave FEEDBACK, dammit!

GRRR. I seem to get a positive feedback for about 1 out of every 5 deals I make. I'm not getting negs or neutrals, I'm just not getting feedback at all. I make sure to pay quickly every time, sometimes within minutes of the auction closing if they accept paypal. I've probably completed 40 deals this year and received 5 feedback if that it seems...

This annoys me too, I sell more than buy, and it pisses me off. specially as I don't withhold feedback. What I mean is, as soon as the buyer pays, feedback is left. I think it's fair...but it chokes when it's not reciprocated.

I've gotten really lazy about this lately.
<----
Don't know why exactly, but it takes me at least a month now all the time to leave feedback. I do leave feedback thou, so it's just a matter of time. For selling I've found it helps to not rush to post a feedback so soon, as I have had a few problems with buyers and the current state of ebay's feedback system sucks donkeyballs.
I bought something from one of the members here a month or so ago, and he's emailed me now a couple times to leave feedback for him. I wonder thou, if that is a good idea or not. :hmm: You may pressure someone into leaving a neutral of negative feedback in the process. I know at least in my case, I received the game in less than stellar condition as the box was bent during shipping. :( I don't know why people don't just use the free priority mail boxes when using this method.
But sometimes no feedback can be a good thing.

I look at it this way... when I BIN an item, pay via paypal within 5 minutes, and then leave the seller positive feedback, I think I deserve one myself. It's not like ebay doesn't have that builtin "leave feedback" function now that makes it so much easier than it used to be.

Oh yeah I know where you're coming from. Some people like myself for example, are just extremely lazy. Then there are others who simply don't leave feedback. You can always check the feedback about others link from their page, and see what kind of feedback they have left. or if they do leave fb.
Also I think once you have a few hundred positives the coolness wears off. When I was first starting out, and working on that first star (10) & on upward to 50 & 100, it was more of a concern. As I was "building a rep" so to speak. But once you get several hundred, or even 1000+ you can get a little jaded. :-D Sad thing is I passed 500 unique and received a new star, was a happy day! Passed 750 unique and I received an email congratz saying I'm half way to the next star. O_O Damn only another 3 or so more years and I'm there!
But I believe most people I've dealt with have posted feedback for me, and likewise most people I've dealt with have received feedback. I think most people do leave feedback, but some take longer than others. And with a 90 day limit many will still get back with you eventually.

It's not like I have 3 feedback, really. I think I'm at like 148. It's annoying, though, that it took me like 500 deals to get that far. Damn morons.

So, I'm new to eBay. Just bought two items recently from different sellers, paid within the same day of the auction's end (several minutes after, in one case).
I haven't received any feedback yet -- is it safe to assume by now that I won't, or will I have to leave some first? Or is it because I'm still shown as a new account?

Usually it's because I forget or I'm too busy, but lately I don't leave feedback "just in case". If I had left positive for the guy that ended up doing a paypal chargeback, I would have had no way to let people know about that scammer

I actually got into a minor tussle with a seller over this today. I had noticed that the game lot they had just purchased from me was being split listed for sale. Fine. Their games, let them go for the extra buck on them.
I politely ask that if they have the time to relist the games for sale then would they consider leaving me feedback for the original sale?
Response: Oh, sorry. The listing came up as invalid and we were unable to bookmark it, making it impossible for us to leave you feedback.
Me: Here's a link (insert auction link). Seems to work just fine. You could also have found the auction in your feedback tab, etc.
Have they left feedback? Nope. Do I buy their story about not leaving it (this is a high-feedback seller)? Nope. Will they ever leave feedback? Probably not.
Had the seller told me that they hadn't left feedback because they only do it on Tuesdays, or when it rains, or whatever, that would be fine. But to act as though they can't figure out how to leave it at all just boggles the mind.

Psssht...1 out of 5 eBay feedback is nothing. Try selling stuff on Amazon. My current feedback to completed transaction ratio is somewhere around 1 to 11. It's not quite the same set up as eBay, granted. But when you're trying to establish yourself as a seller, it's nice to have some feedback and people there just don't seem willing to give it at all.

chad...Drop the seller an email asking him to send feedback because you're trying to build up your rating. When I sell, I usually wait until I ship off everything (say I sell 20 items to 20 users - I'd rather leave the feedback after I'm done dealing with all 20 rather than do it 20 separate times). A few times, I've had buyers email and ask me to drop them a feedback since they want to build their rating, which I do, of course.
Alternatively, buy from smaller sellers - they tend to be better about leaving feedback that garbage sellers like megabuys.com.
I think I get a feedback atleast every other transaction, so it's possible.
