I finally dusted off my old classic NES zapper and tried out Duck Hunt again. This game holds up pretty well even today. What is your favorite light gun game?

Virtua Cop 2.

I always like to throw a nod to Scud on Saturn, though, for both its one player, two gun mode, and two player mode where one player plays a side-scrolling run & gun while player 2 lays down cover fire with a light gun.

Lucky & Wild is also awesome with a wheelman and gunman.

A few other favorires:
Gangster Town (SMS)
Virtua Cop (Sat)
Gunblade NY/LA Machineguns (Wii)
House of the Dead 2 (DC)

I loved Hogan's Alley back in the day. Later on, it was Virtua Cop 2.

I always felt bad for people who only knew of Duck Hunt back then. I thought Safari Hunt was clearly a better game and Hogan's Alley was more fun than both.

Safari Hunt was definitely preferable over Duck Hunt for me by a mile. Master System gun games were awesome.

I liked that one where you shoot at guys that sign up for forums just to spam their Youtube channel. Can't remember what it's called.

I don't remember what it's called, but it's fun to play, even if it's just about impossible to get a good ending.

I never watch the videos attached to these topics, but I'm glad some activity hapoens around them, even if they are just a work around getting lumped into the video thread.

Vampire Night for PS2

House of the Dead 2's dialogue almost makes it win on its own, but Vampire Night has suitably cheesy lines as well.

Of the 2D era stuff Duck Hunt and Hogan's Alley by a wide margin, though Gangster Town on SMS is solid too, and I've been partial to Operation Wolf (nes or arcade.)

Into the 3D, I never enjoyed them as much, but there's no denying House of the Dead 2 in the least bit, and Virtua Cop was awesome as well. In the arcade though I never liked them much other than some of the console conversions that came from there, but one did stand out we never got that is awesome T2 the Arcade Game.

Yep its Duck Hunt for me. I liked it so much it got all my game time on my DH/SMB cart when I first got an NES in 1988.

For something more modern and "House of the Dead" style, I recommend Dino Strike on the original Wii. Lots of fun.

I have to say Lethal Enforcers for the Sega Genesis or Sega CD and the Virtua Cop series for the Saturn.

Speaking of the Wii, Medal of Honor Heroes 2 had a 'zapper' mode too. It was a full second game where you had predetermined courses compiled from the existing stages of the game, but new terrain and it was total nazi turkey shoot and very well handled.

Honestly, I'm going to have to go with the arcade game Crossbow as #1 on my list. Although that might not be the same thing, I've read that the crossbow on the arcade cab wasn't a light gun, the base was a well calibrated joystick.

Im a big horror guy and I vote House Of The Dead on Saturn..........with Lethal Enforcers Arcade a close second. HOTD had a lot of great dialogue, great kill mechanics(body parts), multiple paths and good graphics/characters for the time. Honorable mentions to Revolution X, Terminator 2, Operation Wolf and Time Crisis.

Lethal Enforcers 1 and 2 for the PS1. Having both games close as possible to the arcade experience is fun, but I have no gun for any version of LE 1 or 2 I own (LE 1 SNES and Genesis, LE 2 Genesis and Sega CD, PS1 double pack), and I have an LCD TV. Too bad, though the experience isn't lost, the games are still fun, just a tad more tedious wit a pad.

Still, those Justifiers sure looked sweet, were sweet in arcades too.

I've been thinking, and you know one thing that makes sense yet also no sense at all to me is Nintendo and the virtual console. They put out Duck Hunt on the WiiU, yet another attempt to get some systems sold, yet do not add it to the 3DS. They've done this a few times and it's very annoying. Light gun games work great as tapping speed games on their handheld as point blank DS showed very well so I think Duck Hunt and Hogan's Alley would be awesome on there too.

Time Crisis II arcade. I think that is the pinnacle of arcade light gun games, nothing else I've played really tops it, or even comes close truth be told.

The arcade version IS awesome, but the home versions are bad.
Spent so much money playing Revolution X in the arcade one summer.

Freedom Force on the NES was pretty good and I dug Virtual Cop 2 when I still had a Saturn.

Although it's not technically a "light gun," it is a gun game; I love Revolution X.

I know it's critically panned on all home systems. I know it's corny as hell. I still love it. Got the SNES game back in 1995 and I still love it to this day. The arcade version is fantastic.

But yes, I like the old ones on SMS, NES, 7800, A8 too.

I like To the earth quite a lot.

My favorites are the Point Blank/Gunbullet/Gunbarl games. If I ever get my CRT setup I would like to try Elemental Gearbolt again.

Edit: Forgot about the Gunslingers Collection on the 3DO. Mad Dog McCree is some rootin' tootin' old west full motion video shootin' fun. :D

My favorite console lightgun game of all time is Time Crisis for the PS1. The Namco GunCon IMO is the best lightgun by far. My only complaint is it only works with CRTs. I keep an old CRT in my gameroom just for Time Crisis.

I had such high hopes for the EMS Top Gun 3 Wireless Light Gun:

http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Display-Including-Projectors-Playstation-2/dp/B0073X8MR0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_63_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0HNZRC0S7YB9KBD49NZK

A while back I asked around the DP if anyone had any experience with it but nobody had tried it yet. So I took the plunge and spent over a C note on it. I just couldn't resist the possibility of a lightgun that would work with my PS2 hooked up to my flatscreen TV. The EMS Top Gun 3 Wireless Light Gun is also advertised to be compatible with MAME, PS3, and the XBOX. Sadly, I just couldn't get the freaking thing to work for me. I found out after I bought it that it won't work with Time Crisis 1 even when playing it on a PS2 with it's backwards compatibility. If only I had known that before I bought it. :frustrated: Not surprisingly, I've heard from many friends who also bought it that if your planning on using it on your PC for MAME that the drivers for it are pure crap.

There is a PS2 port of Time Crisis on Namco's Gunvari Collection + Time Crisis. Japanese only AFAIK. If the EMS gun is GunCon2 compatible it should work.

The House of the Dead. I was in awe of that game when I first saw it in arcades. The music was intense, and I was always in suspense playing it.

Sega's Jurasic Park arcade game comes to my mind as being one of my favorite light gun game experiences.
On consoles, I'd have to say the Point Blank games are rediculous fun. Virtua Cop 2 is really sweet to play.
And Time Crisis 3 is really great - I'm looking forward to an opportunity to play it co-op on two screens with system link.

I really need to get this game for my Wii already. As for the question at hand, Lost World: Jurassic Park hands down. Sega could do no wrong with this genre

I had a lot of fun with House of the Dead in the arcades.

For the Super Scope does it have to be played on a CRT that has a curved screen or could you play on a flat screen CRT? I remember playing years ago on the latter and it wasn't going properly.

Any CRT that isn't HD in any way will work. I used my original SS6 on this beast of a Sony Trinitron that weighed like 120lbs.

#1 for me is Gumshoe on the NES/Famicom. Brilliant use of the light gun. The only other game I've ever seen with a simlar premise is Yoshi's Touch and Go for the DS.

#2 is the Point Blank games. Those are awesome.

Shooting Gallery and Rescue Mission, both on the SMS, are honoroable mentions. (I felt the the SMS had better gun games than the NES in general.)

Hopefully, the PS2 port of Time Crisis on Namco's Gunvari Collection that the adolescent recommended will work with the EMS Top Gun 3 Wireless Light Gun. If it does say goodbye to having to play Time Crisis on your old CRTs and hello to playing Time Crisis on a big screen flatscreen. I ordered Namco's Gunvari Collection with Time Crisis from Amazon and am keeping my fingers crossed that it will work. ^^;

There's no difference.

If you had issues, it was something else causing it.
