I just recently got a Sega CD with some games. I have already ran into a couple of problems, but I don't have enough knowledge about the system to know what's going on, or if these problems are common to the system or not. The system is the model 2 Sega CD, with the tray lid that pops open. First, I was playing the game Silpheed, and the system suddenly reset after about 5 minutes of gameplay. It took me back to the system start up screen. The second problem was while playing the game Hook. The colors in the game looked fine, but as soon as I reached level 3...the colors were all messed up. Everything looked over saturated, and colors were wrong (oranges were pink, reds were purple, blues were green, etc). It seemed like a connection issue with the AV cables...but I restarted the game and the colors were back to normal, so no way it was the connection. Does anyone here who is familiar with the Sega CD know what these problems are and what's causing them? Thanks.

If I had to guess I'd say the two issues were unrelated, and that the reset was just a random hick up. See if either issues persist. I highly doubt that they will, at least the Silpheed reset anyway, unless of course the disc is scuffed. I've had forced resets from scratched discs for the SEGA CD and other early disc based systems, but I've had annoying random resets too with clean discs on systems that work perfectly fine.

I'm geussing it's a capacitor issue.

Do you have a model 1 or 2 Genesis? If a model 1, I think there was a mounting plate that helped connectivity. Make sure that is on if you have one or make sure that the Genesis is lined up even with the connector to the Sega CD. I had a model 1 of both machines and even though everything was tight I had to wedge some cardboard in between the Genesis and the CD to level things out.
Another thing you could is to clean the expansion contacts on the Genesis.

Recaps are never a bad thing.

I have it hooked up to a model 2 Genesis.
