View Full Version : To open this sealed Color Dreams Silent Assault... or not to. Thoughts?

Bought this sealed copy of Silent Assault for the NES only to realize once I received it that it's the French box version.

I don't collect foreign NES at all and I overpaid for this one (as it wasn't represented as being French) so I can't get my money back.

Now, the only difference with the French variants of the Color Dreams games are the French stickers on the front & back, & a French instruction manual (as well as English?).

The cartridges are identical for both releases.

Here's how I see it... I can either sell this at a loss (lame)...

or...

Open it and have a mint cartridge, sleeve, and (possibly?) English manual.

Then thinking I could try my luck at using heat to remove the French stickers from the box. Pretty good at sticker removals!

So... thoughts?

If the only thing that makes it different is the sticker I'd be satisfied with it as is, but if the sticker is on the outside of the shrink wrap and it bugs you, then I say remove the sticker.

Some might think it's silly, but I enjoy the challenge of removing stickers without damaging shrink wrap or cardboard boxes, or paper in extreme cases.

Try and peel the stickers off but realize with age the odds are it will fail and in that case just enjoy it. I see no harm since you're already fine taking the hit and feel it would be dumb to just not even enjoy it and sell it to someone else. Just have fun with it, unless by some shred of luck you can peel the stickers off, then well that's up to you at that point.

It does seem odd you can't return it though as ebay and paypal have a window if you went through either/both of them.

I would just leave it sealed. Usually with any old sealed game I would choose to leave it sealed and buy a used one for playing.

This is a good choice here, because Silent Assault is awful. I have it, and it's pretty terrible.

Get it graded then charge several grand for it

It strictly depends on if your going to play it if its opened or not if you choose not to open it. Or you could choose to flip a coin on whether or not it is to be opened.

I feel terribly guilty ever opening a sealed game older than the Wii/DS generation, personally. :P ...okay, who am I kidding, I feel guilty on the Wii games too, but the Operation Rainfall games called to me. :P Before that -- nope, not gonna open it. "Find" another copy to play if it interests you, use the sealed game to sweeten a bundle in a trade.

Then again, I'm weird.

Well one of these days I'm going to get around to cracking the seal off a game I have here I intend to definitely do on GBA that's worth a little bit. I just have other things in the way, RPG sized things that eat time. I won't lie though, I have one sealed game I keep in a shadowbox, but it's just because I already own the original silver release and love the yellow re-releases art (Metroid.) If I hadn't kept that cart since the 1980s I'd likely have been tempted to open it.

I have a handful of games that are still sealed and i either bought or already had copies that were open.

The only one i went out of my way to get an extra copy was 3d hot rally for fds. I didn't know it was sealed when i bought it and considering the game and the scarcity of it in the states i thought it would be a good idea

Most of my sealed games fall under the realm of failed backlog. Perfectly intended to play them, didn't, and never unsealed them. But yeah, when it gets even barely too old. I'd rather someone else pay the "sealed fee" and then buy a used game, even if it means (usually does) that I take a loss on my original purchase price.

I agree. I would leave it sealed and pickup a used copy.
