View Full Version : What Gaming Systems Do You No Longer Own?

Considering many of us would never give up anything, it might be interesting to find what what systems each of us have owned that we have traded or sold away and never replaced (if you traded away a Dreamcast, for instance, and then got another one it doesn't count). When I started making my list, I was surprised at how many systems I gave up, especially considering I still have over a dozen. So here's systems I no longer have...

Atari 7800
Sega Master System (traded it or sold it...I forget which)
Game Boy (lent it to my best friend; he died before he could return it)
Game Boy Color
Game Boy Pocket
Sega CD (traded it)
3DO
Neo Geo Pocket
Sega 32X (is that really considered a "system"?)

I have two other systems, including the TG-16, which I technically still have but have plans to give, trade or sell to another person.

i sold the tg-16 before and i will not do that again, and bought another one.

Atari Jag, i had it, I played it, I sold it, and don't regret it one bit.

I no longer own Sega CD or 32X. Yep, I regret selling those. (I do have a CD in the garage -- bought it & it didn't work. )

I gave away my TurboGrafx-16 to a friend (I only had one game for it) years ago, and I sold my GBC a little while ago. I miss neither.

I think that Mom garage saled the old Atari 130XE while I was away for college. A damn shame, that.

EDIT: Well, I guess that doesn't really count, since I didn't sell/trade/give it away. Hmm. Reading is fundamental.

My Redant Game Axe. I sold it to help buy my Xbox. That is the only system I have and will ever sell. PERIOD!

Genesis 1 (now have a Genesis 3)
Game Boy Color
Game.com
Game Boy Advance (have an SP now)
Sega Saturn (shipped off today in a trade)
Playstation 2 (sold in anticipation of newer model, which never hit the US  )

I sold my Turbografx-16 in high school because I thought the 3 games I owned (Keith Courage, Victory Run, and Vigilante) sucked. I plan to buy another one someday...

I traded in my original NES, Super Nintendo, Genesis, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color all at once to buy an N64, and I have since replaced the NES, SNES, and Genesis. I was into comic books at the time, and I didn't expect to be an avid game player again. How wrong I was. I have a GBA now, so there's no point in buying the GB and GBC again, but I wish I had the games back.

I traded in my first N64 to buy the Dreamcast, which is a decision I don't regret except I sold Harvest Moon 64 2 weeks after I bought it... :(

I returned my PlayStation back when KB Toys allowed returns on open systems. I didn't like the button layout. I have a PS2 now, so I'm finally discovering what I missed as far as the PS1 library...

So many trangressions in so little time...

Playstation 2 (sold in anticipation of newer model, which never hit the US  )

It's still on the way, isn't it?

Anyways, I no longer have:

Virtual Boy
Dreamcast
Game Gear
Genesis
Playstation (if that counts, I've got a ps2)
N64

I used to have a front-loading NES that my dad had since 1988, but that died in 1994 and was then replaced by a top-loader in 1995. The old front-loader was eventually thrown away in 1998. It could have been fixed...

Oh the tale is painful- a view of my ever changing mind of games.

Here we go, the systems I sold and do NOT have now:

Sega Genesis (purchased 3 times in the form of 2 Genesis 1's and a CDX)
Sega CD (purchased 3 times in the form of a Sega CD 1, Sega CD 2, and a CDX)
Turbografix-16 (purchased 3 times)
TG-CD
Atari 5200 2 port
Atari 5200 4 port
Atari 7800
Sega Master System
Intellivision
Colecovision
Tandy Color Computer 3 (twice, second time as I had no room to store it safely-transferred all my software to an emulator)
TI 99/4A
Game Boy
Game Boy Pocket
Sega Game Gear
A myriad of dedicate Pong systems

Yep, I think that's it. My wife won't let me sell any systems I have now as I might buy them again. Not that I want to.

I had an Atari 7800 at one point and a classic 'brick' Gameboy that I bought for a year then traded in to the same used game shop.

Well, this is kind of hard to answer, because....

I no longer have my NES, SNES, PlayStation 1, and Commodore 128D but I only gave those up after I got emulators and ROM's on my PC.

I no longer have my GB, GBP, GBC, and GBA because I traded each one in for the next model up, normaly at a GameStop or a EB. (Have a GBA SP right now).

I've never given up a system that I can't still play either in emulated or new mode.

I'm a pack rat in general -- video game consoles aren't the only thing I've hung onto over the years.

The only system I've gotten rid of and never replaced was my Gameboy Advance. I bought a GP32 with the cash and couldn't be happier.

At some point in history we got rid of our old Odyssey 2 console. While I've replaced the box, I only have one or two carts instead of the dozens I used to own. Replacing those are on the "someday" list.

One parting that really hurt was when I had to sell off all my arcade video games. I used to own Shinobi, Mat Mania, Elevator Action, Star Wars, Street Fighter II, and some japanese fighting game with Sailor Moon-looking girls in an old Punch-Out cabinet. My wife and I moved states, and in the process sold our house and moved into an apartment. The worst part was, after running an ad, I practically had to beg people to take them. I think the Street Fighter II and Mat Mania went for $25 each. :(

Years later, I've settled. I have Shinobi and Bucky O'Hare machines, as well as an full sized dart board and a MAME cabinet in the works.

PS: Phosphor Dot Fossils, I'm an Okie! I'll be in Tulsa on the 20th for sure!

Colecovision, that's all. It just did nothing for me (I know, I know), and then croaked completely. I never bothered to replace it, nor do I really wish to.

NeoGeo...I had it for a week, realized I didn't like fighting games enough to warrant me keeping it...also the games were so expensive and that's no good if you're primarily a collector.

Colecovision: Sorry guys, I grew up with nes so pre-nes stuff just doesn't have huge appeal to me

Intellivision: same as above

Various atari systems: Pick em up only for resale: still have many and tons of games

Don't get me wrong about the atari 2600 though, It definitly revolutionized console gaming but than the Nes provided another HUGE leap (the biggest ever in videogames in my opinion)

Same goes for all other Atari models: come and go just to trade them

Ti-89, my dad saved it as a kid, sold that bad boy off (nothing impressive)

3do units: dumping all 4 of em and everyone 3DO item I own currently, some rare games on e-bay right now

Turbo Duo : Have had 3 complete in box in the past, keep letting em go for amazing trades, Thoght I had replaced this for a killer 20 dollar swap meet find but it turns out it needs repairs

The Duo is really the only console I want back in working condition (I'll probably just send mine in for repairs somewhere...any suggestions?)

Let's see...

From a long time ago (ie, these quit working which is why they're not around anymore):

Odyssey 1
Telestar Arcade (the big triangle thing)
A six switch 2600 (which I do own again, so I guess this isn't what you're asking, eh?)

More recently:

Atari 400
Atari 7800
Colecovision
Color Computer
Commodore 128
Vic 20
Odyssey 2
Intelivision 1 and 2
NES Top Loader

Next to go:

Atari 5200 (as soon as I find a shipping box large enough for the thing, it's boxed!)
SNES
???
???

Regrets? Nope.

I'm usually big on keeping systems, but I did unload my Nintendo Toploader because it's inferior to my toaster NES.

I guess I've never gotten COMPLETELY rid of a system - just some of the variants. Many Genesis & Atari 2600 versions have passed through my hands. I've always mainted one variation for myself on whatever I sold.

For me it was the 32X & 3DO. Sold them a year and a half ago, wish I never had. The 32X was NIB with 15 games and the 3DO was in great shape with about 35 games. I vow never to sell something unless I have more than one of them from now on! I did throw away my C64 before moving to MO, in hind site I should have kept it. :( Oh well, at least they are cheap to get agian.

Thoreau says "Simplify, simplify".....

Exactly. Whether it's bills, games, or whatever I always try to keep things as simple as possible. If it's a game or console and it sits there for a few months taking up space without so much as a glance from me, it's a strong candidate for being turned into something that I will find useful (aka cash). The only exception is something I know I plan on playing at some point, aka the stack of RPGs I have waiting right now. That being said, the only consoles I've given up on are...

-Sega Master System (nothing I played interested me)
-Intellivision (didn't have this one as a kid but won it in the DP Spring Cleaning contest a while back, the lack of nostalgia made it nothing more than "outdated" to me though)
-PlayStation (Christmas present to my little brother when I got a PS2)

I also sold my old NES and Game Gear back in high school to get some quick cash, but later bought both systems again.

I've also sold a ton of systems I bought only to resell (mostly duplicates of what I have).

Bump from the dead, since I can't help but reply to this.

I got rid of my NES in 1995, and have yet to replace it.

Also, in 1994, I got a used Game Gear for my birthday, along with Sonic Chaos and Mortal Kombat. I kept it for about a year or so, then got rid of it.

Virtual Boy and Sega Master System, traded them for a Saturn and 11 games, thought I got a good deal, but I miss them.

Consoles, no. But handhelds.

The first Game Boy I had died after excessive use. (First and only Nintendo console I actually ever had die. And that was in 1991. Nothing else since..)
We've lost all the replacement "Play it Loud" series GB's we got for Christmas that year. (Red and black as well as another grey.)
My Game Boy Color is lost in a box in the attic with the other GB's.
Same with my white original Advance.

I just know one day next year while the parents are going through the attic for Yard Sale fodder, we'll find a treasure trove of Game Boy's and games.

Hmm...none. I sold a second N64 that I picked up from a friend (kept the shitty sports games though) but I kept my first one. Would like to get a boxed one again sometime :D

PS1 - Got this gratis after a friend got his PS2 at launch. Played it, enjoyed it, but when I got my own PS2 it only seemed right to freely pass the old gray mare onto someone else (another board member, actually).

GBC - Traded my original model GB for the color when ToysRUs had a reasonable trade-in offer back in 1998 or so. Then traded the GBC in towards a model I GBA right after the SP came out. (Oddly, I still have a Model I GB, complete in box, which was a present from my dear younger brother to replace my original model I when it was temporarily lost).

No regrets on these giveaways and trades owing to backwards compatibility. For that reason I see little reason to hold onto a console if a compatible upgrade is released (My exception is the Atari 2600, although compatible with the 7800, this system has the most personal nostalgia value so it stays.)

I sold my Amiga and SNES back in the day, but have long since re-acquired both of those. I've since sold a bunch of duplicates, but the only systems I've sold that I haven't had more of are my GBC and NGPC, both sold when I was trying to streamline my collection by getting rid of handhelds, but as expected, I regret it now (well, the NGPC anyway :) ).

Aside from that it's just a MegaJet that, while being a funky piece of kit, had never been used in the 18 months I had it - why bother playing with the awkward controller buttons on that unit when I've got another 6 or 7 Megadrives/Genesii lying around?

The only systems I've owned and not kept were an old Telstar unit (man, I wish I still had that), and my NES. I sold my NES to a start-up video store with a whack of games for about $700 just after the SNES came out.
Just this year I finally replaced it. A co-worker of mine had an extra and passed it my way free of charge.

BTW, that video store (Your Pizza-Video Connection) closed up like six months later. It seems that people weren't interested in ordering pizza and a movie at the same time. They would rather order a pizza and have the delivery guy RETURN their movies instead, I guess.

Threw out my broken Colecovision from when I was a kid (stupid), but that's the only one. Well and the toploader, but I still have like 6 toasters.

I would like to get rid of the 2600s (the 7800 is better), 32X, Sega CD, and Master System (and get a PBC), and maybe the Intellivision...

I never gave or sold away any of my systems, even the non-working ones, and I'm glad I didn't. Well I did gave away my busted up NES to my cousin because my mom found a used NES (that lookz completely brand new) for $5. The best thing about my "new" NES is that I hardly have to blow any of my games for it to work. I don't believe in trading in my old systems for better versions because sometimes I play NES when I don't have any new games for Gamecube. Sometimes I play Dreamcast, or N64, or any other system I own. My stupid friend dropped my WWF: No Mercy, so now I gotta see if nothing erased.

I remember when my cousin first moved into his house. His dad found a working Colecovision in the house. You know what his dad did? He threw it away. When my cousin told me, I was like, "WWHHHAATT!?!!?! @_@ @_@ @_@ ......... You could have game it to ME!"

And that board member thanks you! :D

I'm a terrible pack rat. Il have nearly all of the systems I acquired since I started collecting (including my first 2600). I did give one of my Atari STs to a friend (another board member, actually) but with no regrets as I have several STs.

I remember buying a PS1 the first week it came out, only to sell it to a friend of mine about 2 weeks later.

I bought it with great enthusiasm, expecting it to be the next great step in gaming, but I was soon disappointed with the "style over substance" direction most games were taking.

Apart from that, I still have every other console\gaming machine I have owned, including a non-working NES and an Amiga which I would like to hook up again sometime :-P

Coleovision. This system and I have an interesting on-again, off-again relationship.

I never owned one back in the day. But I've owned three systems, all within the past 5 years. Here's the drill. I'll find a system at a thrift store, buy it and whatever games are around, and fix the joysticks (they ALWAYS need my own custom repair job, which I'll explain if anyone's interested). Then I play the system and games for a month or so, and sell everything on eBay or somewhere else. I always make a nice little profit after having a little Coleco fun.

The last time I owned a Colecovision, I almost decided to keep it. It was all about a little game called Ladybug! Wow, what a great version!
