:?:
How can one tell a true Famicom cart from a Piracart ?
I am collecting those piracarts, but recently I have had few carts i suspect they are true Famicom carts.
How can you tell the difference ?

there are so many different REAL famicom cart types and sizes that it's hard to tell what's a fake if you don't read any japanese or have access to a picture of the actual carts! but, here's a hopefully helpful guide:
there's actual copyright info on the front or back cart labels. fakes sometimes have single labels, or labels on both sides, often off-center or poorly printed. some just have art and no title on the label, or the title in a font other than the one used on the real cart- a dead giveaway for a fake.
japanese carts are made from thicker plastic than many pirate carts, unless the board was put into a real famicom cart casing.
there are no nintendo licensed 16-in-1, 10-in-1, 52-in1, etc. multi-carts
some japanese famicom carts say "made in japan" on the back label
some have have a stylized "ff" on the back (for famicom family)
some companies had carts made that incorporated their logos into the cart! namco(t), jaleco, taito, konami, and nintendo did this, and a few more companies followed suit.
there's more, but it's late, and i'm tired!
oh yeah- so, what are you doing when you find out you have REAL famicom carts? should i pick through your trash sometime soon, lol...=^P

got a link to a scan or scans? there ARE loads of pirated carts with serial numbers, but no trademark/copyright info. a definite sign of a fake. what are some of the titles you have by ntdec?
(i just realized- that could stand for "nintendo deck", if you think about it, lol)... :D

Well, yeah, NTDEC has manufactured pirate cartridges, but War in the Gulf is actually an original game.
Is that your cart, mrjones? I've been looking for War in the Gulf. There's an NES version too, but I'd settle for Fami...

Yes, that is my cart on the pic. ( a won from an auction )
If I am not mistaken, I have two of those carts. If that is so, then maybe the other is available.

Well hey, just let me know. In fact, I'd be interested in whatever unlicensed Famicom games you have, just to know what's out there. I think I have a pretty good grasp on all of the obscure unlicensed companies, but new ones pop up all the time!

Well, I have to dig out my collection of those carts. I think I have well over 100 different carts, made by a dozen or so different companies.
I also have a rather good start of pira-fami consoles, maybe a few dozen of them.
I know there must be several hundred different "models" out there, even new ones pop out every year...like Picatchu famiclone, Ps-one lookalike, N64 -pad lookalike etc.
Even consoles like Saturn , Megadrive( Genesis) have their own version famiclones.
Weird, uh ?
