Won't get a bid, starting price is way too high. Does that say #383? There goes every grey NWC cart count thus far.

what is this game ?

The auction gives a fairly good description, but I'll elaborate.

Back in 1990, Nintendo ran its own contest called the Nintendo World Championship, letting players from around the globe compete in a "standardized testing" format. This NWC cartridge was the key to that challenge.

Players ran the same gauntlet, which started out with the collection of 50 coins in Super Mario Bros. Once that was done, they hopped into a 328 GTS to battle it out in Level 2 of Rad Racer. Following that task was Tetris, the game that has broken men's souls and left them crying on the floor (well, probably, somewhere). Since the whole shebang was a timed affair, you had about six minutes to get all this done -- and to build a combined high score -- if you wanted to make the leaderboard.

Dipswitches on the front of the cartridge allow the timer to be adjusted, too, thus adding to the challenge for later competition.

The rarity of this game is based on the fact that, up until now, only 90 gray carts and 26 gold ones (given to winners of a Nintendo Power contest) have been known to exist. Which makes it pretty much the most sought-after NES cart ever made.

Duncan :D

PS: Woo-hoo -- 101 posts! :)

The 26 gold is the only certainity here.

Some people have claimed 90 grey are out there but others (like myself) have always felt that there are more out there than that.

Its possible that some came from Canada or Nintendo employees.

This is a good thing though more NWC carts for us.
