Just released Upp! for the Atari 2600. Free ROM download at Itch.io

http://theloon.itch.io/upp/

Escape the space barrier by thrusting upwards! Avoid the plasma ball and laser blasts from enemy UFOs. Obtain the energy pods (the round objects with an exclamation mark) to blast openings. If a plasma ball strikes an energy pod then the space wall rebuilds. Points are awarded when the plasma ball hits the space wall or the player exits far north.

Set either difficulty switch to PRO for a slightly more challenging game.

Press FIRE to start game or thrust upwards.

Steer left or right with the joystick.

How screwy, it's like arkanoid/breakout combined with one of those thread the (whatever) through the hole game and a little bit of a shooter too. Incoming fire, blocks, a hole you need to make and thread though and dealing with incoming fire and more blocks if the arkanoid ball hits the !. Smart design. And you don't even really earn points doing anything, you get them as the arkanoid game clears the bricks.

Yep. For awhile you can get away with staying in one place and letting the plasma ball bounce off bricks for score. You do get about 200 points for exiting the current stage though.

If you get past level 8 (or set the difficulty switch A/B to PRO) the laser beam homes in on your current position so letting the ball do the scoring gets harder.

Now that I like, it's a good healthy twist having a curving semi-homing shot. NO fun if you can just sit there and get a freebie.
