So I finally got the funds up to get Fallout 4. I pretty much kept myself in the dark about the game, not watching any videos or reading much about it, so it came as a shock while paying to find out the main reason I'm going on this revenge quest is because "I" was kidnapped... Wait, what? Haha, so the son's name is Shaun same as mine, (must have been a popular name in the 80's because I'm seeing it everywhere nowadays) it's so strange to keep hearing my name used, I wonder if I'll get used to it by the end. I had a similar experience with Shaun of the Dead.

I was just wondering if anyone else has a similar reaction when some popular media uses your name in it? Maybe it's just me because, Shaun is more of an uncommon name (or at least it was up until recently), so I'm just not used to hearing it used so often in media.

A friend of mine got super into Mysric Quest as a kid because hia name was Benjamin. For me, though, no. Michael/Mike is all too ubiquitous to be surprising, unfortunately... Star Tropics 1&2, Dr Chaos, Eternal Darkness, Goonies 1&2, Michael Jordan's Chaos in the Windy City, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Final Fight series, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Moonwalker, Space Channel 5... I'm all over the place.

Can't say I've had myself in a game I've owned where I'm the character in it, but I do have my name in the credits and manuals of a few games from 15 years ago. :)

I honestly did have this same thing happen but it wasn't a major character. My name is Davin, a pretty rare name. Well wouldn't you know they gave that name to an NPC in the first Mass Effect. I just sat there and stared because I never see my name anywhere, unless I were to do a facebook search for everyone named Davin.

I've never seen a game with a character that uses my full first name. But I do see my nickname now and then. There's Terra's original name in the Japanese version of Final Fantasy VI, the Dead or Alive character (pretty blah American stereotype, so I don't really care about her), one of the bachelorettes in the 3DS Harvest Moon, and the female story mode character in the GBA Mario Tennis. That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure I've encountered more as NPCs and what have you.

You must have loved Heavy Rain! :)

I have a fairly common first name- Ben- yet I'm not aware of any games (none that I've played anyway) that have a main character with that name. It made watching Star Trek Deep Space Nine pretty interesting, though.

I haven't seen it in video games... but I've seen it in pop culture. My first name is Jonas and the Jonas brothers have ruined that for me. I'm 31, so much older than them, yet when I meet random young guys at the gym / playing basketball / etc., some of them say "Oh like the brothers?" after I introduce myself. So annoying.

Well at lest I see I'm not the only one that gets that feeling when hearing their name in a form of media. I can see where you'd get used to it with a more common name (you'd have to with some of them) but man, it's still kinda pulling me out of the game every once in a while. ^^; I keep trying to immerse myself into the game and it's like every time I hear "I have to save Shaun" I'm like wait... oh lol.

Haven't really played it yet but I guess I'll have to now just to see. :)

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest has Benjamin as the default main character name.

Yea, spelling would be a deal breaker in a game that doesn't have spoke dialogue. I don't know of anything else with the other spellings of Shaun (Sean and Shawn) but I remember going on the family vacations as a kid and my cousins leaving the souvenir shop with personalized keychains and whatnot, me, I'd get a rock or piece of wood with the state on it. Every once in a while I'd find a Sean or Shawn but it's just not the same. LOL

There's Shaun of the Dead and Shaun from Heavy Rain.
