The best way to clean disc's without Gamedoctor

I dont feel like buying Gamedoctor just for one game, so I am looking how to clean the game with household products.

My Madden 2004 almost got eaten alive by my Ps2(Ps2 made several grinding noises and scrachted it up) and now it is having the dreaded DRE's.(Disc Read Errors)

If the game is scratched, no amount of cleaning will remove the scratches.

If it's just dirty, you can run it under the faucet and rinse the grime off. If you wipe it dry, remember to go in a straight line from the center to the outer edge. NO CIRCLES!

You can wipe it off in circles with a cotton balls.....won't scratch it :)

I've had excellent results from scratch buffing with a big pencil eraser. Scrub with firm pressure along the radius of the disc. Don't go in a circular path around the disc. The theory here is that you're buffing out one big scratch and replacing it with thousands of much smaller ones that can be read through easily.

I've fixed numerous games this way. My copy of Gran Turismo 3 used to crash when loading the Laguna Seca track. I buffed it out, and now it works fine. Only one game was so messed up that no amount of eraser magic could save it.

Oh, and clean off the eraser crumbs before you put it into the PS2. ;-)

Ok I got it to work. What I did was take Glass Cleaner, Sprayed a little on the CD and wiped with my finger from center to outside. Then Washed it off under water. Laid it on a paper towel, wiped the rest off the cleaner off with a tissue.

I read a LOOOOONG time ago on usenet that Armoral will work on CDs. Anyone here tried that?

Windex is excellent for cleaning general marks, dust and fingerprints. Of course, it won't do anything for scratches, but it's amazing how much difference a clean disc can make. Just spray on a bit on Windex then wipe with a cloth from the inside of the disc to the outside.

Also check at your local music stores they may have a cd buffer. We had one at the place I used to work. It was called an Azuradisc. It would take scatches out like crazy no rings or anything it was great. Some discs would look perfect. Those scratches you described sound like the machine would get those out very easily. Good Luck.
