Per tradition, the new topic is up a day in advance, the game systems are warmed up and you lot are going to document your year long beats here.

1. Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R (Arcade via MAME) 1/1
My family rang in the New Year with some MAME gaming, and we somehow ended up on this game. By all accounts, it's a pretty dull, slow game consisting of nothing but a bunch of mini-games that aren't even fun, but for some reason we felt compelled to play to the end, haha.

1. Alien Hominid - PS2
First game of the new year. Cool run n gun shooter. It's behind and ahead of its time cuz it's a sidescroller that came out in 2003 but way before the rise of 2D indie games, but obviously way after 3D gaming became the thing. Check it out, it's a real great game.

1. Labyrinthine Dreams
Simplistic RPGMaker game about a women on her death bed, so she has to run through a pile of mazes, running from a demon. Short, doesn't do anything that you haven't seen a hundred times before, but not really poor.
2. Minecraft: Story Mode: Episode 4: A Block and a Hard Place
Fitting end to the short story. Sort of wonder what the final episode is going to do, but I think a big hint for that has already been dropped.
3. Emily Is Away
Cute, but predictable. The real fun is working out the achievement icons.

4. LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey
Much shorter and easier than the console LEGO games, which makes since. Chima is LEGO in house series and it's directed at kids. Still plays well, sounds good. Worth the few dollars I got it for.
5. Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition
Short visual novel type game. Story really isn't interesting, didn't make me care about the characters at all. Interface (Vita version) was clunky and slow.

2. Detana!! TwinBee (PC Engine) 3/7
I haven't had the time to finish off a handful of games I started in 2015, let alone seriously start something new (though there is one game I started in 2016 that I'm close to beating if I can just get back to it), but I gave my PC Engine Duo-RX some love after barely touching it the last few years. Played all the way through my old favorite Detana!! TwinBee, though on Easy and most of the way with two players (cleared the last stage by myself).

01) Star Wars Battlefront (PS4)

02) Breakthru (NES)
03) Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain (PS4)
04) Godzilla (PS4)
05) Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes (PS4)
MAR
06) Jamestown + (PS4/PSN)
07) Grandia (PS1/PSN)
Little late to the party, but here's this year so far for me.
Battlefront I did all of the single player stuff in January, then this past month I finished everything on the hardest difficulty and got all the trophies.
My brother and I both finished Breakthru. We accidentally sort of put it in and got addicted quickly. Really fun little game.
Spent $15 on Godzilla and it was well worth it. I'm just glad I didn't pay full price! Still, a fun game to waste some time on if you're into Godzilla.
Metal Gear Solid 5: I played these out of order, but oh well. Really dig Phantom Pain. Sucks not having David Hayter as Snake's voice, but every time Snake spoke I was hearing Hayter's voice anyways. I also got really sucked into the base building aspect of the game. I kinda dreaded finishing it, I was so into the game.
Jamestown is a really fun shmup. Veeeeerrryyyy interesting setting for the game too.
Grandia: I've been curious about this game for years and downloaded it off PSN a few months ago. At first I was put off by having to maunally rotate the camera around to find doors and paths, and the game looked super pixelated at first(looked much better when I hooked up my PS TV to my newer television), but something drew me back after I played 1 hour and put the game down for over 1 month. First, I love the battle system: just awesome stuff. Secondly, the game has a gorgeous art style and the music is incredible. I really love how the game starts out as just a couple of kids seeking adventure and slowly builds from there. I really enjoyed my time with this one.

It was a very long journey to finish once again this game: Xenogears ...
I finished Xenogears in the fall of 1998 and started the game a few more times but didn't had the chance to actually finish the game. A few months ago I tried to complete the game once again and finally yesterday had the time to finish it.
Easily the best RPG for the PS1 and Top 3 of all consoles/computers (for me). It was a really good experience and found so much more than the first time and understood the plot better this time.
I want to thank you all and my family for making this a reality, you make the world a much better place (LOL) 8-)

1. Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R (Arcade via MAME) 1/1
2. Detana!! TwinBee (PC Engine) 3/7
3. End of Serenity (PSP) 3/27
Instead of being smart and working on beating all the games I have half-finished right now, I started up and beat something I just bought, haha. There was a recent PSN Flash Sale that had discounts on some interesting stuff. I normally don't pay much attention to PSN sales because I want everything in physical form if possible, but I spotted two retro throwback RPGs created in a 16-bit/RPG Maker kind of style by Kemco that I vaguely remember being localized by Natsume and coming out digital-only in the dying days of the PSP (originally they were mobile games, though). For less than $5 each, I figured they were worth a whirl. The other I hear can be fairly long, so I'm putting it off for later, but I heard End of Serenity was super short, which cemented my decision to start it up. And true to what I heard, I did beat it in like 10-11 hours. It's nothing special, but it's fun for what it is, a breezy, fast-paced little traditional RPG that feels like it could've been a B-tier SNES RPG. Had it come out back in the day, I think it'd have a favorable legacy, though nothing like the greats of that era. It'd probably harder if it had come out back then, though. As it is, it barely puts up any kind of challenge.
Probably my biggest complaint is that it uses some of the old groan-worthy story tropes. I mean, I guess that's the point, in trying to be nostalgic and all, and the story and characters development is so paper-thin that it's practically nonexistent anyway, but I have to roll my eyes when there's a female villain second in command to the big baddie, and she's only "evil" because she *~loves~* him, and of course she looks like some sort of dominatrix because "sexually confident woman" = "bad girl". I just could do without some of the lamer aspects of old Japanese RPGs.

Fresh start from the previous four episodes that is apparently going to lead into a further three episode DLC story. Pretty good so far.
9. The Charnel House Trilogy
As far as adventure games go, this trilogy is pretty simple to follow, very few actual puzzles. On the other hand, the writing is damn good and the sound direction is perfect. Also features the voice work of Abe Goldfarb, which always pushes a games rating up a point with me. Highly worth a look.

Managed to 1CC World Heroes Perfect on MVS last week with Fuuma on normal difficulty. Strange because it was only my second time ever playing the game. I have a CD-R of Saturn WHP and also World Heroes Anthology/Gorgeous on PS2 but never once actually sat down and played it. I've been on a World Heroes kick lately and always wanted to check out Perfect but it was the one game I didn't own on MVS.
Neo-Dio didn't have the usual SNK boss AI, beat him using cheap follow ups after blocking some of his specials. Fantastic game that really needs to be played on a 6-button setup.

Pretty amazing game, particularly when you consider it was all done by one person. Looks great, plays great, sounds amazing. Has a biting difficulty curve, but also a reasonable one. Much of the game is simplified by properly planning ahead and making use of scanning to keep track of what monsters are weak against what. Very much recommend and I'm ready for Epic Battle Fantasy 5, in production right now.

Thread made me look at my Backloggery.com account to see what I've beaten. Man. Not much.
Beat Shadowrun: Dragonfall around New Year's day this year.
Beat "Dead Space" for the PC.
Beat the digital card game "Chainsaw Warrior: Lords of Night" on Steam.
Finished a Talisman: Prologue with the first character (Warrior) and am going to call it a day on that one.
But that's it. I've unfortunately been playing a bunch of games that really aren't quite beat-able - the Project 1999 Everquest retro server, for one. Also, Terraria, which I got close but haven't finished. Started playing Spelunky on Steam, but I honestly don't think I'm ever likely to finish that - it's super difficult. I just don't have the patience these days to sit down and slowly master the skills necessary to beat a super-difficult platformer - even one where the entire run-through is programmatically identical (e.g., most Nintendo games - where you can "memorize" everything), let alone a game like Spelunky where it's totally random.

This game is just....goddamn. The script is bad, the gameplay is clunky, the voice direction is a crash course on how to take a group of pretty good voice actors and make the horrible. It's disjointed, has random difficulty spikes The one thing I can say for it is it's got a pretty decent OST.

This is out of order, I guess I never got around to writing this one down, but I cleared it a few months ago. The game uses the new engine TT is developing for future games and it really stands out from previous work. Gameplay is fluid, little to know hicups, no syncing problems. The story itself is..ok, but you already know how it's going to turn out, since it takes place between other stories.

I've never played Final Fantasy Adventure, the game Adventures of Mana is a 3D remake of, but this version was a fun little game. I'm glad Square Enix caved and brought it to Vita, and I'm glad I dropped the 14 bucks on it. I was thinking of trying to platinum the game, which I've never done for any game so far, but I didn't get a few trophies that I was hoping to have earned by the end, and I don't know if I want to do the backtracking to find what I missed. Plus, on top of that, I'd have to do a lot of level grinding. Well, we'll see. Maybe I'll stick with it.

Took me a bit longer than expected because I got hopelessly stuck until I wandered around just about everywhere (darn you, map, for making a room with a door look like a dead end), but I knocked out Xeodrifter pretty fast. There were a number of things that irritated me about the game, but it was decent fun overall. Now to just 100% the map and find the remaining health upgrades (already found every gun upgrade). Definitely not gonna go for every trophy this time. I'm not interested in replaying to speedrun, nor do I want to practice enough to beat the final boss without taking a single hit.

I haven't finished beating any games this year yet, but I finally came back and updated my list from 2015. Entries 10-17 were added. I got really busy and changed my setup multiple times. After finishing King's Field II for PS1 in November I started playing Suikoden III for PS2 again and some other PS2 games but didn't 100% finish any of them yet. Then I started playing Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal. I'm getting close to done with all three, but it still might be a while. I started a file in Pokemon X and Y versions just so I could download multiple rare Pokemon from these monthly giveaway events but haven't tried to progress beyond the first town with a Pokemon center. I want to play all the older games first.
I don't know if you guys are on Facebook or not but I've done most of my talking about games with people in groups on there for the past year now so I haven't even come to the forums I used to all the time.

Going from the second game back to this one, all the improvements are very striking. This game is good, very good in fact. Just it's fairly glitchy and is sometimes less clear on what it wants you to do. Worth playing.

Yea last 2 levels took me many many tries, finally finished it tonight, quite an amazing game, never beat it before, it might be the best Genesis Sonic game. The biggest challenge to the ending here wasn't in the battle itself, it's in doing it before the stupid time runs out. There's a slow cut scene in the middle of it and u hafta beat the whole level and Dr. Robotnick's 3 machines and watch the cut scene in 10 minutes. Not easy.

I've been sick with a cold these last few days, so I wanted something simple I could play while lying around. I pulled out this little Konami puzzler and breezed through the story mode. The license is lost on me, since I've never read the Gals! manga nor seen the Super Gals anime adaptation, even though both were apparently localized for the US, but it's a cute, decently fun game.

In my attempt to actually finish off some of the games I started this year before the year is over, I polished off this kinetic novel today. A pretty light, fluffy affair compared to the visual/kinetic novels I'm usually drawn to, but that's not a bad thing once in a while. It's a shame that the second chapter still isn't localized and the ones after that might never even be made, but it was still satisfying as a standalone story. It's also a shame that the second chapter is Amano's route, who I like least of all the girls (Sakura, whose route is in this first chapter, doesn't super grab me personality-wise either, but it was still an enjoyable read). To be honest, the protagonist is my favorite character. He's a great straight man, with a dryly delivered comeback for everything. Maybe it was just how it was localized, but I've never seen so much sarcasm in a piece of Japanese media before.
