I bought Majora's Mask and the game starts out fine with all audio and video, but then I lose sound completely. At first the game would lose sound and then freeze within 4 minutes, but after cleaning the cartridge/jumper pak it has improved and now I just lose audio 2 - 3 minutes into the game. Could this be a faulty jumper pak or cartridge? I dusted off the n64 today and tried another game like Super Smash Brothers and it also does the same thing.

Btw, I just got back from AGDQ are there any speedrunners for 64 games here? I'd like to complete a 602 once in my lifetime haha

A 602?

Complete the following: Super Mario 64 - 120 stars, Super Mario Sunshine - 120 Stars, Super Mario Galaxy - 120 stars, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 242 stars for a total of 602 Stars as fast as possible.

Well, if it's happening with more than one game, you can rule out a faulty cart. If you're playing Majora's Mask, you have an expansion pak in there. Do you happen to have access to a standard jumper pak that you could try? Smash Bros. doesn't require an expansion pak to run. Is the expansion pak official? Third party expansion paks are notorious for having issues. Did you clean the N64? That is, the slot? Even if you clean your carts, if the system itself is dirty, games can still have trouble running.

I'm not aware of there being much of a speedrunner presence here. We're mostly retro game collectors.

I used to speed run just for fun, but I don't ever record or submit; it's just for kicks. I could probably still put up a pretty strong Mario 64, but I don't get super into the others there.

Unless Super Smash Brothers optionally also utilizes the extra RAM, you can rule this theory out since he says it also happens there.
