It's got some goodies though, I'm in!

7 Classic Games:
Power Drift
Puyo Puyo 2
Fantasy Zone II W
Sonic The Hedgehog
Thunder Blade
Galaxy Force II
Altered Beast

2 Bonus Games:
Fantasy Zone II
Maze Walker

(The bonus titles are SMS games) Maze Walker was one of the 3D Glasses games they've converted to be right on the 3DS (yay.) I want to use the word hopefully, but it's Sega, old games, and a Nintendo fanboy wall on this, but it would be nice if it sold really nicely so they'd do another volume with more (including more 3D Glasses SMS conversions, maybe Zaxxon?)

I know there was a wish for Power Drift on the board here so that should make for some happy people. I really don't understand them leaving out certain games, but perhaps those were more/less what sold best on the eshop so far? I'm curious why something like Streets of Rage and Outrun are missing.

Fantasy Zone II is probably my favorite video game of all time (if not, then it's tied with Space Harrier). I don't own a 3DS, but I'll have to acquire one now JUST for this collection. It's really that serious for me.

Different collection. For whatever reason, it appears they're bringing over just the 2nd set.

Aww that's not cool, do both. :\

Finally, we get POWER DRIFT in the west.

Looks like we need two threads merged. :)

I'm hoping we get Japan's Volume 1 later on. While the order they're going in and the lack of a Volume 1 subtitle is peculiar, I don't know why they'd just decide to not bring that collection out before ever seeing the sales performance of this collection.

Surely if this meets expectations, we'll get that earlier collection as a follow-up to this.

Being that the all Sonic games outsell everything else Sega has on the 3DS eshop by huge margin, I'd say that was probably the deciding factor in releasing this to the Western market instead of the first volume.

I was amazed by the amount of ill informed negative responses on Sega's facebook post about this. Complaints that it's just another lazy Genesis compilation (it has what, 1 Genesis remake?), wishful thinkers asking for a Saturn or DC collection on 3DS (..... really?) with the vast majority of whiners having no idea these are totally new 3D remakes or that most of these are available on the eshop.

Two, since M2 went with the Genesis version of Altered Beast due to an extra layer of parallax scrolling or something like that. Was more suitable for a 3D conversion than the arcade version.

Fricking ignorant crybabies and entitlement culture morons on that facebook post. Half tempted to write something but it would probably get flagged for removal because they're too dumb to realize they're dumb.

I say go ahead and write something. If they're really being that way someone should try to mitigate the ignorance. It's what the Internet is for...I mean, besides pr0n, of course.

Did anyone besides me pick this up? It's been out a week or two and I've seen zero talk about it on the few places I visit.

I'm definitely glad I picked it up even though I already own everything on it except for the cartridge exclusive stuff. Puyo Puyo I can take or leave, I'm not a fan of the series or puzzle games in general so I won't be investing much time in it. Initial impressions of Power Drift seemed really nice but unfortunately I never played the arcade original. All my experience with it is from the Saturn version. I'm hoping to sit down and put some time in with it over the next few days to give it a proper digging in to.

Main reason I bought this was for the SMS games and they sure didn't disappoint. As always with M2 it's fantastic emulation with a ton of options. I know there's not a chance in hell Sega will release the first 3D collection cart here in the North America but I wish they would at least throw those cart exclusive SMS games onto the Nintendo e-shop. When the Sega 3D classics releases were first announced that was my sole reason for investing in a 3DS. I've picked up a few carts here and there but for all intents my 3DS is just a 3D Sega machine since that's what I use it for the majority of the time. It's a shame they've come to an end and we don't have any more to look forward to.

Nope which is bad since I started the topic. Between the MVS, the stack of Game Gear games I have (and +3 this week too from a trade), and +3 GB/GBC/GBA games from Japan or same trade, and 2 blu ray box sets of 4 movies in each I don't have the time. Uncharted 4 I forgot about showed up from amazon on the 10th too and it's still sealed which I don't like but it is what it is.

I can't remember the last time I even turned on the 3DS and I turned down that dollar Nintendo humble bundle so if I can't even bother with a dollar, $30 isn't happening. I still never picked up the Bravely Default sequel either because of that stuff and because it's not reviewing anywhere near as well and given how boss fights later in the first went I'm not motivated to at the current price either.

I'm just more caught up in 80s/90s tech right now with the mvs, pinball, gameboy and game gear to even bother -- and that's still while some nights plugging an hour or something into either diablo 1 or 2 on my laptop when I can. I dug myself a big hole. But given I do like the sega junk I had as downloads already I'll end up with it I'm sure some day.

Nope. Too late. Sega fails again.

Kind of where I am on that and Bravely Default 2. I see them new/used in some clear out bin 6-12mo from now for 1/2 off I'll grab it with no full intent of ever finishing the RPG and just lightly dabbling with the other since they're short titles.

I also see reports of your death have been greatly exaggerated.

Confused by the last sentence? Not important to be reported on. Only thing I can do is try.

Not easy, mang. Life is garbage. Probably drunken high as shit. Somehow some little spark keeps you going. I fail and failed at failing. You can only attempt what you feel in your heart. Don't really wanna be here but there's a 5+3 year old who want me to be. If you want an experience, I'll give it to you.

Please don't be finished, Sega/M2. And if there's another game, please let it be this one instead of the others.

I picked this up on a whim, as I've always wanted to play Power Drift. Other than Sonic, Altered Beast, and Galaxy Force II, I have very limited prior experience with the rest of these games. Here are some impressions.

Sonic the Hedgehog - 3D isn't as good as Sonic 2, where all the crevices in the rocks got their own 3D layer. This is the japanese version with the scrolling clouds though, so that is cool. The water in Green Hill Zone seems to have that angled plane like Streets of Rage 2 3D does on the street, a nice touch.
Thunder Blade - AMAZING 3D, a perfect fit for this title. I haven't played this since I was a kid in the 80's and the hit box seems very large on the chopper, but maybe I just suck and need practice.
Altered Beast - I like this game, the 3D doesn't do much here, but what COULD it do, really? It's a simplistic game, not many layers of parallax. Really odd choice as they were also considering Golden Axe as a 3D classic, and why the Genesis version?
Puyo Puyo 2 - Only tested this out, subtle 3D effect separating the little blobs from the background.
Power Drift - I have to admit, I usually play with 3D on full, but this game gave me an INSTANT headache as my brain tried to sort out the layers. Playing it with the slider clicked just barely on is a comfortable fit though, and the game is super fun and very responsive. Or just play with the 3D off, it's a super fun game. edit: You know it must be super fun, since I typed it twice.
Galaxy Force II - This is the enhanced JP PS2 port with transparent explosions. 3D is pretty great. Sorry I don't have more feedback, I played it to death on PS2 and only tested it out here, so far. LEFT TURN!!
Fantasy Zone II (master system) - Fun game, 3D is a very basic couple of layers like you might expect.
Fantasy Zone II Tears of Opa Opa (arcade) - This one surprised me a lot! First off, I'd never played it and it is quite addictive, a heck of a lot of fun. Crisp, VIBRANT graphics. The 3D is very nice too! Opa Opa itself has several layers of 3D, one on it's body, another on its feet, and yet another on its wings. Very nice attention to detail for the 3D transfer. This is a standout title for the collection, in my opinion.
Maze Walker (master system) - Watching gameplay before I purchased the collection, this honestly looked really boring to me. The 3D however, fits PERFECT here, and the game is actually quite fun. The only thing I can think to compare it to is Chip's Challenge, but without the puzzles. And with mazes. That probably makes no sense. Another game I didn't expect to enjoy, but quickly became a standout title for me. I know I will be coming back to this one again.

There are almost too many options on these games to mention: such as "classic mode" (at least on Sonic the Hedgehog) which gives the impression of a fuzzy 80's SD television complete with bubbled out 4:3 screen (3D really gives this effect) and slightly off kilter color balance. More of a gimmick than anything, but a nice vintage touch. Games that had deluxe cabs like Galaxy Force II have the option for screen tilt when you move side to side in the game (to simulate as if you are riding in the motion cabs). Some of them also have arcade sound effects (button pressing and hydraulics type sounds). You can remap your controls as well. I haven't gone through all the option menus for all games in the collection yet, so I'll just stop here. Being greedy, I still would have liked a little more value for $29.99 (like maybe Streets of Rage 1, or Super Hang On) but I am happy with the purchase since two of the games I wrote off as forgettable turned out to be surprising good times.

The console version of Altered Beast was used due to the arcade version having no levels of scrolling at all. I read that in an M2 interview and thought for sure they must be mistaken, went back to check it out and it is indeed flat as a pancake.

You missed a game. The original SMS Fantasy Zone is hidden here and is accessible without needing a save file present from the earlier collection that we never got, which was its unlock requirement in Japan.

It even got a brand new FM soundtrack option based on the arcade game, something that it didn't originally have due to predating the FM sound add-on when it originally was developed.

:)

With the console version of Altered Beast already having several layers of scrolling, M2 added another layer to the final level where it's pretty obvious the original console version could have used it. There may or may not be other additional layers on other levels, but I've yet to spot any.
