I recently picked up a bunch of Sega Saturn games cheap and I want to put them up on ebay. The problem is that I just sold my system so I have nothing to test the games on. They all have some scratches but I've played games before on the Saturn that worked fine with scratches. Anywho, heres the question. If I state in the auction that the games have been untested and are sold as-is, is there any way for a buyer to complain or get a refund if they don't work?

I dont think they could complain to ebay or paypal to get a refund since you didnt claim they were working (unless they bought the money back guarantee paypal offers), but Im sure they'd complain to you - whether you gave them a refund would be up to you. I would just put in the auction that you havent had any problems with disks like this and that they are not heavily scratched, well, if they arent. ;)

Just make it very, very clear that they are AS IS and not tested. If they are scratched let them know so there will not be a "not as described" excuse for a refund.

That being said, what are the games? I may be interested in something you've got.

The games are:

Daytona USA
Star Fighter
Andretti Racing
Nights (not with 3D controller)
NHL 97
PGA Tour 97 (disc and manual in a different case)

The discs are pretty scratched up, but I've played some like that before and I didn't have a problem. The only reason I picked them up was becuase they were cheap. I should have just left them alone.

Sometimes, it depends on the seller and the item, when you pay with paypal you have the option to pay a dollar or two for Paypal's money back guarantee. You can get however much money you paid back if you are not satisfied with the item.

I just checked out the paypal money back guarantee requirments and it says it doesn't cover videogames.

Specific item exclusions. Items or situations which fit any of the following exclusions are not eligible for protection under the Guarantee:

Items that have been damaged by the buyer

Apparel items that have been worn or washed

Media products such as DVDs, CDs, video and audio cassette tapes, video games and other software, etc.

Stored value cards (e.g. phone cards, gift cards, etc.) of any kind

Hazardous materials including but not limited to chemicals, explosives, flammables, poisons, and gases

Firearms, explosives, or ammunition of any sort including but not limited to guns, rifles, and bombs

Illegal/contraband goods

Animals, plants, or any parts thereof

Motorized vehicles of any kind, including but not limited to automobiles, motorcycles, boats, and airplanes

Recalled products

Consumables and perishables

Land, buildings, structures, or real estate properties, lots or improvements

Items weighing more than 70 pounds

Items that, when packed, exceed 130 inches in combined length and girth (the combined length and girth is length plus twice the height plus twice the width)

I thought I heard people on this board getting screwed by buyers lying, but if games don't count doesn't that mean you don't have to pay. Now I'm confused.

Ok, I wasnt sure which items were covered or not, I just knew it came up sometimes when I checked out.

Im not sure what you meant about not having to pay, but here are the things I found on the paypal website - hopefully this is what you meant:

If you purchase the Money Back Guarantee, you will have the option to return your merchandise to PayPal in exchange for a reimbursement (not including the Guarantee fee), provided that you file a complete reimbursement request within 30 days of payment.

and:
If you do not receive the promised goods when using PayPal to make a purchase, take the following steps...If you are unable to resolve the situation this way, you may immediately initiate an investigation by filing a Buyer Complaint Form (login to your account and select the "Security Center" link in the footer of any PayPal page). This report must be filed within 30 days of the payment. PayPal will investigate your complaint and attempt to recover any funds you are owed...

Well, looking back it seems if you paid for MBG and are not happy, just send the goods to paypal. If you dont get the goods, file a complaint. So, I think if you were to get videogames and were not happy you are just screwed. I think the other thread you mentioned was dealing with someone not picking up a package so they could say it was never received, and then filing a complaint with paypal like above. Was this the lying post you were talking about?

We aren't talking about a whole heck of alot of money here. If I were you I'd just hold on to them until you got another system and sold them as a lot with the system.

I'm mean you won't sell these games for alot PLUS it might come back to haunt you if they don't work. I think your money will be safe but it is worth the hassle of negative feedback and 2 months of angry emails if they don't?
Then IF sell them as untested you REALLY won't get anything for these games.

If you have to sell them this is what I would recommend.

1. Charge a higher than it will cost you shipping charge.
2. State that games are untested but you will refund the purchase price minus any shipping and handling charges if they are found to be defective.
3. Better yet. NO QUESTIONS ASKED return policy minus shipping and handling charges.

If they don't work you make a small ammount and can cover your fees. This also acts a deterant for the buyer. If they have a change of heart they won't say they don't work UNLESS they are willing to eat the cost of shipping to you AND your shipping expenses.

Don't worry about chargebacks just keep your receipts and be clear in your auction description.

I didn't think I would get much for them, I just figured no one around here would want them cause of their condition. So the only other place is ebay. Like I said before, I probably should have passed on them but the price lured me in. Thanks for the tips though.
