Anyone know how commonly Saturn back art is faked? I recently bought Burning Rangers and the back art is very wavy, almost like water damage but with no discoloration. I pulled out some of my other games and the art on the back is flat as can be. There is a crack in the case so maybe it's some sort of moisture issue? I've just never seen the art look like that before.

It likely is a moisture issue. I have a few games like that that I bought brand new back in the day that over time have become wavy like that. It sucks, but it's common, especially with late Saturn titles that used cheaper paper.

If its just wavy, that doesnt mean its fake. Its probably due to moisture rather than water. Ive seen this multiple times before

Awesome, thanks for the help. Yeah, it's just wavy really. The consistency of the paper seems fine and I feel it's too good to be a fake. I'm just paranoid as it's not a cheap game.

A friend of mine has a US Burning Rangers with the same wavy back insert, it's probably just a quirk with that specific paper, Sega is notorious for lowering their manufacturing quality as a particular console ended its life cycle.

I can confirm that one, Sega Genesis packaging and cartridge labels took a nose dive in quality when they switched to that candy stripe red motif, and further still in the last few years after that. Not surprised to hear this was the case with the Sega Saturn as well.

Every Sonic 3 label I've came across looks like it has leprosy, even the newer Majestco reprints.

I've got a few Sega CD games that have the wavy back insert going on. These were bought brand new from me back then and have never been subjected to anything beyond normal household humidity.
