Thought it might be fun to post about any games received or given this year.
My wife got me Space Harrier 3D and Zaxxon 3D for Master System. Both are pristine CIB, and were some of the few Sega Scope 3D glasses games I didn't have. I'll post pics later. I was pretty excited to finally own those two!
I gave a few this year as well. I gave my brother a copy of Super Metroid, my oldest nephew Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3DS (he's 16 now, but when he was a kid, he adored Mega Man, and I thought it might be a nice reminder), another nepgew Gotcha! for NES along with a hat...
A couple of my buddies got Ni no Kuni for PS3, Deadly Premonition for PS3, and Mystic Defender for Genesis. Oh, and another nephew got Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters for Gamecube, while my youngest nephew got Namco Museum Remix for Wii, as he's become a Pac-Man fan.

My loving but somewhat oblivious wife got me a Nintendo Classic Mini (aka the European version of the NES Classic Edition) which I obviously know she overpaid for being that we're in the good ol' US of A. I know the games are the same and everything plays at NTSC 60hz speeds. I also know I didn't the snazzy poster that the US version came with. I can live with that and the game play seems very good compared to the slight by noticeable input latency with many NES emulators.
However, I was hoping someone with the US version could check (or post some screen shots) of the menu box art. The Euro version I have is a mix of US and Euro boxes as designated by the oval and round Nintendo Seals of Quality, respectively. I was wondering if this is the same with the US version. Basically, I want to see if the US and European versions are identical software-wise. Otherwise my overtly type-A self my be constantly annoyed with this gift until I get a 'proper' US version (if differences exist).
She also got me the hardcover 'Playing with Power' book which brings me back to the Nintendo Game Guides of decades past. I haven't looked at it in depth, but from Amazon reviews, it seems to be written in Engrish and overall poorly edited ;)

I've finally got a current gen system. The wife got me a Gears of War XBOXONE S. I also got a set of Gears of War Pop figures, lots of Pokemon stuff some art supplies, candy. I also got a few MLP and Pokemon things, a few other odds and ends from a close friend, and a cool sugar skull diffuser from my mom.
I don't know much about the XBOX ONE library, so feel free to offer up some suggested titles I might want to pick up.

I got the wife a few bags...lots of bags. A Betsey Johnson purse, a Wonder Woman backpack, a couple make up bags...
I also got her 6 more Walking Dead Pops to add to her collection, a foot soaker thingie, a few giraffes, some sunglasses, an art set, some protective boxes for her Pop collection, and a bunch of other random stuff.
She's also a Wonder Woman fan, and with Wonder Woman being all the rage now I made her a custom Wonder Woman stocking, and wrapped all of her gifts in a Wonder Woman colour scheme. She did some cool customizing for my gifts as well and added little cog and gear embellishments to my red gift wrap to go with the whole Gears of War theme, which was pretty cool.

I also made her a goofy little colouring book of some line art I drew of her as different 80's characters (Jem, She-Ra, Princess Leia, etc.). It was fairly rushed and last minute so I didn't have time to do any backgrounds, but she gets her kicks from this sort of stuff and loved it anyway. The silly colouring book and a $7 flea market giraffe statue were her favorite things. She always likes the least expensive stuff, which is awesome.

Holy shit! I think you need to teach lessons on wrapping gifts. I'm proud of myself when the paper only kind of bulges out at the ends from leaving too much extra.
Seriously, that's a phenomenal presentation! Cool idea with the coloring book as well.

Not bad really good effort on that.
I ended up getting from my wife 4 lego dimensions sets from the 80s just for display fun (she had no idea it was a game) and then a t-shirt with surfer stuff, woody cars in a band across it. My mom got me the Lego Yellow Submarine build and the blu ray of the movie along with 3 more shirts, one hawaiian band across flowers and then a Paper Mario w/the hammer (wearing it today) and the classic N64 logo along with a mini UV box meant to sterilize keys/mobile phones...but given the size I could probably 'retrobrite' gameboy games in it and it could fit a SNES game whole too (so I'm scheming.) :)
We also did joke stockings this year, ended up with a fart box, a little block puzzle, a 1 motion flip transformer of bumblebee, and a little box of whoppers.
I got her that Mickey Adventure #2 for 3DS and a blue carry case for her 3dsXL, a $30 gift card to ann taylor, and a horse calendar -- her stocking had the same block puzzle(funny coincidence), a yoyo, a slinky, and a mini dumbo tsum tsum.
We got $125/ea in check cash though too.
The one who made out was our kid. Huge American Girl haul of stuff. Doll of the Year Lea, a horse bigger than her she can ride, sheepdog and house, turtle, multiple outfits and accessories, 2 books, 1 dvd, 2 diy t-shirts for her doll, and more. Got an Elena doll and the guitar, a flat block puzzle with many solutions(kind of hard, but she got it), that Thin Ice game with the marbles/tissuepaper, a cabbage patch doll, some paw patrol stuff, a dory blanket, some ponies, a frozen jewelry making kit, and more I'm forgetting.
I never get games anymore for christmas b/day, no one ever really knows what I want so it's just not a safe buy as I buy little ever modern and no one wants to use scary ebay or do a lame gift card either. The only gaming gift was the few days earlier NES Classic Edition my wife lined up for that early early Tuesday morning last week and then the couple days later gift to myself when I found the $6 Dreamcast bundle as I chose to keep it. :)

I very stupidly wait to wrap everything on Christmas Eve, every year. I NEVER get any sleep the night before Christmas. :beaten:

Cute cat.
I got some PS4 games. Retro wise, I got some USB controller adaptors so I could use my vintage controllers on Retropie.

An Xbox One S and shelves to put all of my consoles in.
A new bed (we found a TON of stuff under the 17-year-old old bed, including an Acclaim wireless NES controller, a CIB Turbo Grafx 16, and a Virtual Boy in passable condition with a box in terrible shape. Some of the stuff had been under the bed since 2009). We continued the renovation of the bedroom and my upstairs room. There was a CIB Odyssey 2 collecting dust in a back corner of my upstairs and an old wicker basket with probably 30 or 40 old controllers in including several Atari 2600 controllers, a SNES Super Advantage, and a SNES Mouse. There were papers in the old box including my July 8, 2013 grocery shopping list. The controllers hadn't been touched since probably 2010 and were very tangled. One had already broken, the wire literally splitting. The rest were fine.
My classic collecting is on hiatus due to college expenses and the fact that prices for some classic stuff is in$ane. When I resume (in the next year or two) I'll focus my collecting on newer, say 1995-2013 stuff (6th through 8th generations, with the current gen being 9th)
